I was initially very excited about this book. it profiles some solid Christian women, some well-known, some I had never heard of. Based on the author's biography, I assumed it would have sound commentary. I was very disappointed that the author promotes women pastors, saying "Women can serve God however they choose." This violates 1 Timothy 2:12. The illustrations are lovely and most of the stories are great. I wish the author could have kept her progressive, unbiblical ideas to herself. We will be discarding this book.

This is a beautifully done book with a hardcover binding, ribbon marker, and wonderful illustrations of the women represented. There are 100 devotional stories of famous women throughout historyfrom Biblical times to todayeach story with an illustration of the woman, along with a short story of how prayer changed her life and a scripture to go along with it. As you go through your daily devotional, you will meet such women as Maya Angelou, Anna, Gladys Aylward, Candace Cameron-Bure, Nadia Comaneci, Shirley Dobson, Kathie Lee Gifford, Amy Grant, Shawn Johnson, Helen Keller, Florence Nightingale, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and many others. Each of these women impacted the world around them and continues to impact today's world. They are all wonderful examples of how prayer changes things!! While this book is geared toward young girls, it is one that can be enjoyed by anyone of any age. The stories of their lives will encourage and inspire you. Absolutely loved this book!!!

A beautiful book both aesthetically and in content. Our young girls today so desperately need positive examples to follow and this book delivers. One of my favorite parts is that it includes characters from the Bible, from history and from modern day. Each of the woman's stories about what made them courageous includes a 1 page life story summary, a picture, a Bible verse and application to help young girls emulate their good characteristics. It encourages you g girls to dream big and follow God. I highly recommend this book for girls 8 to 15. By the way, it would make a great Christmas gift. Some of my favorites are Fanny Crosby and 9000 ideas, Amy Carmichael and brown eyes, and Gladys Aylward and God knows what you need. 100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls by Jean Fischer is a collection of two-page true stories about real women throughout history and the impact they made on our world. Some of the women are famous Biblical figures such as Ruth, Esther, Eve, and Sarah while others are from various time periods in history such as Mother Teresa, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and Joni Eareckson Tada, in addition to many women I had never heard of before.

Written mainly for girls ages 8-12, some of the stories are of women who were martyred for their faith and while being written carefully, it is told how they died which can be upsetting to more sensitive children. Each woman's story has a pertinent Bible verse to compliment the story along with a picture of the woman being described to enable the reader to put a face to the name. Some of the pictures are more realistic while some seem more cartoonish, but all are full-page colored drawings. Each woman's approximate birthdate is also listed in this hardcover book which captivated my attention from the cover forward. A pretty mint green ribbon is included for marking the page where you stopped reading, and the paper used is heavy glossy paper that will hold up over many years of reading.

I highly recommend this wonderful book for anyone with young ladies in their circle of family and friends to encourage them to live out their faith with courage and trust in God as these women all did before them.

My nine-year-old daughter loves this book! She especially loves the illustrations and the stories of girls and women from the Bible. Great book to encourage girls to be all they can be.
