Title: Not in My Town: Exposing and Ending Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery By: Dillon Burroughs, Charles Powell Format: Paperback Number of Pages: 192 Vendor: New Hope Publishers Publication Date: 2011 | Dimensions: 9.00 X 6.00 X 0.40 (inches) Weight: 9 ounces ISBN: 1596693010 ISBN-13: 9781596693012 Stock No: WW693012 |
Readers obtain a greater awareness of trafficking within America as Burroughs and Powell move from Orlando to Las Vegas to Atlanta, sharing the stories of trafficking activists and victims they meet. Powell's years as an undercover cop give him an insightful perspective on street crime and the ability to dive into dangerous situations and get stories straight from the victims.
Readers are taught specific ways to speak out and stand against trafficking worldwide by taking action here in the United States. The passion in this book is inspiring. The authors clearly show that the people entrapped in sweatshop labor, agricultural slavery, or sexual exploitation need help.
Not in My Town urges Christians to "loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free" (Isaiah 58:6, ESV).
While it's not particularly well-written stylistically, this book provides good information and direction on what steps to take after education. It's a good text for someone interested in the issue and wanting to gain a general understanding and make the issue personal. Not in My Town shows readers the problem of slavery is still relevant, and is as local as it is global. Emily Luttrull, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
