Publisher's Description

The third in this popular series, with the same format (including questions that teachers can use for checking comprehension) that has driven the success of Exploring Planet Earth and Exploring the History of Medicine. Home and Christian school teachers are clamoring for these more specialized books and here Tiner delivers in a big way. With a flair for telling biographical sketches of famous scientists, Tiner also provides students with a solid foundation for understanding the crucial purposes of chemistry.

Coming from a Novice. You will find chemistry to be verrry interesting! Who knew without Christians that chemistry may have come to a standstill. (this is from me NOT the author). After studying the periodic table of the elements and "behind" the elements you will find the MAJORITY of the elements were indeed discovered by Christians. Looking further you will find many female chemists (at least three elements were discovered by females) and at least two married couples working together. (however this is not mentioned in the book). You will discover Catholics, Protestants, and Mendeleev an Orthodox Christian (the person who organized the table) all of which were paramount in the development of Chemistry as we know it today.

You will probably notice that when a leap an advance in technology, a Christian was probably the forerunner.

This book is very insightful and chocked full of intriguing information you will give yourself a face palm when you find out how Christians were (are) deeply involved with Chemistry. As you well know, God does work through people.

Hold onto your britches AND be ready to be amazed!

In closing, the next time when someone says, you have to separate science from God you can smile and know they are very incorrect. Just dont argue, it aint Christian like : )

    Peace and blessings,

Homeschool mom of 2 girls (11 and 15)

BONUS! The girls really ENJOYED this book and placed this in their through the year(s) chemistry binder.

P.S. We purchased the e-book, well worth the extra printing.

P.S.S. This Book is a great starter book while you start delving into the Periodic Table (all 118 elements) NOT just the first 20.

    HISTORY IS FUN! : )

    mom has a M.B.A.

*a little advice: study the elements in depth, it makes science even more fun. (just don't breeze over it) AND remember to have fun while studying. : )

I find this book very useful. Not only to young students of chemistry. I have studied chemistry at the university and I would like to have found this book before.

Because it is simple and well written. Clear. It helps you to fix ideas and to have some general concepts clear before you deepen your knowledge of chemistry.

It is a very good starting point. It helps to lay down a basement. To root your knowledge. And with a biblical basis. It is entertaining and it gives real examples. It tells about the approach and difficulties scientists needed to face and the author says when the scientist was a christian. It also gives biblical examples when the compound or element is mentioned in the Bible.

    Excellent.

Ask a Question

|

Q: Is this book attractive or 90% text per page? Can a 4th grade boy "grow into" this book? If I leave it in the family room, will a naturally science focused 4th grade boy check it out. I think, if it's similar to a "coffee-table-book" with at least 35% photos/charts, he will. Please let me know your opinion. Thank you in advance.

A:

This is mostly words and the pictures are all black and white pencil drawings.
