Notgrass History's Exploring World History curriculum covers creation through the present day for a full-year high school world history course written from a Christian perspective.
Each unit is filled with enjoyable chapters and many full-color photographs of archival images, artifacts, and locations. Students will read narrative-based chapters that cover some of the world's most important events, issues, and people. This book also references classic literature (in separate books that are not included) that help bring to life the time periods they are studying. Units begin with a summary and list of lessons, memory work, books used, and a project. Each lesson ends with readings from the book In Their Words, additional literature assignments, and instructions for questions and quizzes (quizzes and tests themselves are in the sold-separately Exploring World History Student Review Pack).
This updated 2014 edition features hundreds of color illustrations and photographs. In addition to a thorough survey of Western Civilization, it offers expanded coverage of Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
15 Units in each volume for a total of 30 units; 75 lessons in each book for a total of 150 lessons; 50-60 minutes on each subject each day (total of 2.5- 3 hours per day). This course, when all assignments are completed, provides .5 credit of world history, .5 credit of English, and .5 credit of Bible. NASB Scripture used.

This was my first year using Notgrass, and I absolutely love it. I used the World History for my 9th grade son and America the Beautiful for my 8th grade son. The textbooks are beautiful....full of lots of great pictures. And the lessons were laid out very well. The supplemental "In Their Words" book was difficult to read, since most of the selections were written in the language of the day, so we actually ended up skipping a lot of those readings, even though I know they're interesting. But the curriculum was already so "full" that it was challenging to get it done in one year, so skipping the "In Their Words" worked better for us. I definitely recommend Notgrass!
SageCanadaAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Pleasantly Surprised!July 29, 2015SageCanadaAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have been homeschooling for 18 years and I have had them all, all the popular and not so popular World History for all different ages. I have always supplemented, or had to explain that the curriculum is very generous to many characters in History. I don't give all the gory details, but we do need to be honest about the characters and their beliefs. Many curriculums are not. Either they are too light, or they christianize, or sometimes demonize, those in the past, which gives a very unbalanced view of History. I have not found this with Notgrass. For the first time I am able to use the curriculum as is. Whereas I may not agree with Mr. Notgrass on a point, I am not subjected to his opinion as fact. Yes, he does share his opinion, but at the end of the conversation, politely and not manipulatively, (in order to make you feel bad for the bad guy). Also otters uses Usher's dating and does not label everyone as a Christian. The quality of the material is higher than most other courses. Photos give you a feel for the time frame, and highlight important pieces of History. The reading selection is well chosen. If you would like more in-depth study for the literature (Its basically reading comprehension and writing) we added a couple Progeny Press study guides and the rest were covered in the Language Arts course we use. If I wasn't using a separate LA course, I would add 3-4 Progeny Press guides for a full Literature credit. All in all it is the best, most comprehensive, course I've seen over the years. It took us approximately 60-75 minutes per day, plus reading. I only wish I found it sooner.
Kelly5 Stars Out Of 5Exploring World HistoryJuly 28, 2015KellyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This homeschool curriculum brings history to life! Your children will enjoy history and reading the stories about different historical figures. The document based reading assignments are extremely beneficial for gaining insight into the culture of the time period. The curriculum also does a nice job of weaving in biblical concepts and foundations throughout.

I have 1 child who has completed secondary school using Notgrass and another in the midst of it. Even after re-evaluating my options each year for history, I have continued to purchase their curriculum. From a child's point of view, the materials are interestingly written with beautiful photographs. From a parent's view point, it is firmly based on a Christian worldview and provides avenues of active learning (versus just spitting out facts). I especially like their use of primary resources and the incorporation of English and Bible lessons.
