    Great book!

This is a well done solid science book for upper elementary/middle school. It is a good foundational book to introduce the body to children to give them a foundation for H.S. As I read some reviews I noticed some religious comments. This book does contain content that points to God as the creator of human life and references/credits Him often, which is a plus for my family. Our co-op is using this book for K-6th grade. Although it is tough for the younger children, if you purhcase the audio CD they can at least listen to it. We are also making it more real to them by making the cardboard "bodies". Another supplement I am using is the Lyrical Life Science-Volume 3 The Human Body. Its a magnificent complement to the book and helps solidify the concepts learned. It would be great to use just the LLS-V3 for younger children, then use the Apologia book in an upper elementery grade. Overall, I am happy with Apologia and love all the work and care they put into their products.

I hesitated for years to purchase any of the Apologia science curriculums. I did not want to mix religion with education, especially in the sciences. Then I started to see online reviews about how thorough these sciences courses are, even woth their healthy dose of religion. Our first purchase was the biology curriculum. She used it as an 8th grader and scored very well on the SAT II test attue end of the year. We have since purchased regular Chemistry, Exploring Chemistry and Physics, and Advanced Biology. The curriculum continues to evolve and improve.

This is a well written, easy to follow science book with lots of great experiments for the hands-on learner. It's perfect for middle school.

I ended up quitting this book halfway through the year. I am disappointed because it was super expensive to buy the textbook and three journals for my kids. I was using this for 2nd, 4th and 6th. I have loved all the apologia books so far and I was excited for this one. In my opinion, it is extremely difficult to understand for elementary aged kids. If your kids are amazing writers and spellers and readers then go for it, but I found that the only one who understood anything was my sixth grader. It was very very thorough, which is great, but not when it takes a long time to read and explain and then they are expected to write about it and they can't spell 90% of it and you have to sit there are spell osteoblasts, pyloric sphincter, ileocecal sphincter, jejunum, periosteum. This is suppose to be a curriculum the whole family can do so you can target different grades, I don't think you can do that with this textbook. I am just being honest as a home school mama. Just my opinion, it was just over their heads, and frankly a lot of it was hard for me to grasp as well.

This was our first year using Apologia science. We ordered the Human Anatomy and Physiology text book and Notebooking Journal. I also ordered the Human Anatomy and Physiology Kit for experiments. My seventh grade daughter loved this science curriculum and I did too! Each day we looked forward to science. She especially enjoyed the experiments in "Try This". I highly recommend this book for homeschoolers looking for a way to explore anatomy and physiology in a "hands on" way that engages the learner without being too technical or difficult. My only negative comment is that there were no written tests included. However, the notebooking journal is a keepsake and reminder of all my daughter learned in this course.
