I have been very happy and impressed with all of the Apologia texts that I have purchased for homeschool and this is no exception. This is hands down one of the best written curriculums I've used as a homeschool mom for any subject. It is intelligently written, informative, interactive and engaging. Dr. Laura Chase's Christian perspective is not overdone or preachy but displays a true, undeniable God-given wisdom. I used this course as an elective for my high-schooler and found it to be excellent all around from beginning to end. The last section on the human reproductive system and sexuality was perfect for a mature student and covered the uncomfortable topics beautifully and tactfully. I definitely recommend purchasing the student work book with the textbook as we found it to be very useful and beneficial. I had fun participating with my daughter throughout this entire course and I learned so much too! I was not expecting so much science and thorough anatomy coverage in this course. It definitely went above and beyond my expectations. Buying this curriculum was one of my best decisions as a homeschool mom. I highly recommend it!

The whole text book and student notebook is truly excellent and covers every aspect of Human Health; genetics, mental health, physical health, anatomy, and reproduction, in a manner perfect for comfortably educating your child or letting them read and answer on their own... UNTIL the last section after reproduction. (it is nice that it is the last chapter in the book, so everything else is covered first) I ended up separating out a few of the last pages after the normal reproduction section, just because I didn't feel like my children were ready to know about terms on self fulfillment and adult videos. It does discuss the negativity of them and what the bible says about both topics, but I feel once a child knows those terms in todays age, they are going to try to jump onto the internet and see what the big deal is. So it is easy to tear theses pages out of the text book and the student book, I stapled them together, and put them in my filing system for a later date and plan to go over them when my children are later in Highschool.

I found this at Homeschool convention, when I could look at more than just a few pages on the computer. This is written by a doctor, Dr. Laura Chase. The cover of this book does not do this book justice. This is Not just a book on health and nutrition but more like an introduction to anatomy and Physiology on a middle/high school level. Chapter one discusses in depth chromosomes and genetics. Chapter six is titled, "Processing nourishment and hydration" but discusses in length how food is changed into glucose, amino acids and proteins are absorbed into the bloodstream. The workbook is not just fluff. It encourages students to write notes to prepare for tests, gives space to complete experiments and answer all the "On your own" questions. Can you answer why some people have allergies to peanuts or nitrites? Does cracking your knuckles really bring on arthritis ? The answers to the question are in the book at the end of each chapter. I am a nutrition major and this book is well written and if you need a great middle school book or early high school science before you start Physical science, this is a fantastic choice.
