Give your student a firm understanding of the basics of chemistry with Apologia's Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 3rd Edition. Sixteen modules cover measurement & units, atoms & molecules, atomic structure, molecular structure, polyatomic ions and molecular geometry, stoichiometry, acid-base chemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, chemical equilibrium, and more.
Experiments are designed for home-use, though some more "specialized" equipment is required; they include measuring specific heat, discovering the electrical conductivity of compounds dissolved in water, measuring the width of a molecule, exploring freezing point depression, using the ideal gas equation, recognizing the effects of catalysts, and more.
Lessons integrate "on your own" questions to check for review and comprehension throughout the lesson, as well as examples, tables, and images where helpful. Modules end with a "study guide" that includes review questions and practice questions, along with answers to the "on your own" questions.
Each of the 16 modules should take students approximately 2 weeks to complete at 1 hour of study per day at a minimum; the course itself should take 32 weeks to complete. Tests and Solutions are available in the "Tests and Solutions" set (sold-separately).
This revised 3rd edition features more in-depth discussions and explanations of concepts along with biographical sketches of Christian artists.
Prerequisites: Students must be proficient at an Algebra math level.
651 pages, indexed with glossary, hardcover. List of needed lab supplies included. Scripture taken from the ESV.

CoffeehoundTacoma, WAAge: 35-44Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5DisappointedMarch 14, 2016CoffeehoundTacoma, WAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1The Apologia Chemistry 3rd Edition textbook and solutions manual claims to be "new and improved." I found it tired and lacking. Much of the book is just a rehash of the old 2nd Edition with some minor style fixes and some sequencing variations. Colorful pages and fancy backgrounds do not make a good textbook; in fact, they distract from it. What is really bad about this book is all the errors contained within - and I purchased the second printing, not the first that Apologia pulled off the shelves. Additionally, when I compared the text to the College Board requirements for the national tests, many of the key concepts were missing: protein electrophoresis and basic carbon chemistry, to name two, were omitted.
momof21 Stars Out Of 5DO NOT BUY THISJanuary 22, 2016momof2Quality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0The first printing was HORRIBLE. The second printing still has errors too! Just don't do it. I have struggled all year. Talking with Apologia about the errors is fruitless. They are unsympathetic and unapologetic. I have submitted NUMEROUS errors that were not corrected in the errata or in the second printing. Many have yet to make it to the errata file that is on the website even though Apologia has confirmed they are in fact errors.
Even the errata file is WRONG. They update the errata file without notice and without an easy way to determine what was updated. Several errors that were noted in earlier errata versions are no longer listed on the current errata file.
I have always used Apologia science curriculum and I am so disappointed in the new direction the current owners are taking the company. I do not have confidence in how they handle new publications. Sadly, I do not have confidence in their integrity.
Cristina Quantz1 Stars Out Of 5A poor edition, riddled with errorsOctober 27, 2015Cristina QuantzQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1While the layout and general appearance of this new edition may be considered an improvement, the content certainly is not. The book is riddled with errors: formula errors, calculation errors, conceptual errors. My daughter struggled with this book because the frequent errors caused her a lot of confusion. Eventually an errata document was provided by Apologia, and it took me an entire afternoon to go through the document and make the necessary corrections in the textbook. In addition, I found errors within the errata document itself. My book was a first printing of this 3rd edition. Apparently a later printing included the many corrections, but it is not visible to the buyer which printing he/she is purchasing. Apologia really should have recalled the first printing, but they chose not to. This experience has tarnished my opinion of the company. I own all of Jeannie Fulbright's books and most of Dr. Wile's books as well, and my children have loved learning science from them. But after this terrible experience I started to look at other options.
