Noah Justice takes kids on a tour of Mt.St.Helens and its history. It goes into the eruption in the 80's in wonderful detail. It takes geological and historical facts and shows how they relate to the bible. It is really a great learning tool. I watched it with my 5 yr old who loved it. She couldn't remember a lot afterwards, but it still kept her entertained and she did learn some new things.
Overall, the dvd is a bit low quality, but highly educational and entertaining. The study guide is my favorite. It makes the dvd worth watching. I will use it as a unit study myself in our homeschool. I highly recommend you to check it out for yourself and all the other dvds in the series.
Momof4Age: 35-44Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Creation Focused, Fast Paced, Power PackedMarch 21, 2013Momof4Age: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3Fasten your seat-belt as you get ready to explore Awesome Science with Noah Justice. Explore Mount St. Helens is episode 5 in the Awesome Science DVD series. In this episode Noah gives a multitude of facts surrounding Mt. Saint Helens accompanied with vivid pictures and stunning videos. Using scientific facts to support Biblical truth, Noah explains how many of our natural marvels came into being through the catastrophic world wide flood.
Noah delivers much information at a fast pace while barely taking a breath! I would recommend watching the video more than once to absorb all of the information given, and perhaps having the pause button handy. You may also want to watch in short segments using the accompanying study guide that is available. The study guide follows closely to Noah's narration with mostly T/F and fill in the blank questions. The study guide also includes a complete word list, discussion questions, and bonus activities. While I would not use this as a stand-alone curriculum, it could make an informative supplement to any science program and will definitely provide many discussion opportunities. I watched the video with all 4 of my children and found that it did not hold the attention of my younger 2 (ages 6 and 10), but seems better geared to middle school - junior high. The information is relevant to high school students as well.
I give this 3 stars only because my children were not particularly excited about watching this series. For our family it was "okay". I have learned over the years that an excellent product may not be an excellent fit for every family and the various learning styles of each family member.
I was given a DVD and study guide for the purpose of reviewing this product in exchange for an honest opinion.
Randy A BrownTNAge: 35-44Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Lots of great information in just 30 minutesFebruary 10, 2013Randy A BrownTNAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I've seen many Creation videos on Mount St. Helens. I was convinced that there wouldn't be anything new on tis DVD. I am very glad that I was wrong. Like all Awesome Science DVD's, this episode gives more information in a shorter amount of time, and gives information that I've not seen anywhere else.
May 18, 1980, at 8:32 am, Mount St. Helens in state of Washington erupted, causing the largest landslide in modern history. For the next nine hours, the volcano released the explosive power equivalent to one atomic bomb every second. This catastrophic event reshaped the surrounding landscape, leaving geological features that many call "God's gift to Creationists."
In this DVD, Noah Justice goes through many of the geological formations at Mount St. Helens including canyons, strata, coal, rapid erosion, and petrified trees. He shows how each of these formed rapidly. Mount St. Helens shows that it doesn't take millions of years for these geological features to form. It just takes a catastrophic event, such as the flood of Noah. Noah goes on location to Ape Cave and shows many tunnels and hole formations made by evaporated trees.
The study guide summarizes the information from the DVD and contains many activities to help with learning. Activities include true/false, multiple choice, fill in the blank, and discussion questions. The guide is great for individual or group study.
Like all Awesome Science DVD's and study guides, I highly recommend Explore Mount St Helens DVD and Study Guide for homeschool, Creation studies, group studies, and individual study. There is more information in this 30 minute DVD than I've seen in many other DVD's and seminars and this information is very easy to follow and understand. Highly recommended.
This DVD was provided for free from Master Books for this review. I was not required to give a positive review- only an honest review.
247mama5 Stars Out Of 5Volcano!January 30, 2013247mamaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5What kid doesn't think a volcano is cool? My kids sure do! I was excited for them to learn more about Mt. St. Helens. It's important for them to begin learning real information about real places- not just generalized info on the Earth's phenomenons. And were they ever excited!
As Noah Justice took them on another journey to see God's miracles, they sat in awe. Apple just soaks in all the information. She loves science and I'm always amazed by all the facts she remembers from the Awesome Science episodes. I think the terrific visuals provided on the DVDs works well for both Speedy and Apple. The DVD format keeps them interested and helps them to understand the information.
Of course we love the study guides as well. They help us to review the information later to make sure the kids understood the information. It also helps that Noah Justice is just 14. They would much rather learn from another "kid" than from an adult. It keeps it "cool." These episodes are just right for a home school science lesson from a creation viewpoint. The short videos work well into our school day.
The highlight of Episode 5 Mt. St. Helens was watching Noah Justice go underground in his fedora. Apple couldn't wait for him to say "Science- it's awesome!" I can say that these Awesome Science videos always teach me something new too! If you are planning a staycation this year- take in the Awesome Science DVDs. It will be like taking a world tour from your living room!
I received this DVD and study guide from New Leaf Publishing for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.
Renee K5 Stars Out Of 5Amazing DVD that will intrigue youJanuary 28, 2013Renee KQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5I was pretty excited to review this episode. Something about volcanoes has always intrigued me since I was a kid. I remember when Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980.
Learning about the catastrophic event of Mt. St. Helens that occurred and the fact that it became a literal living laboratory that was observed and left evidence for scientist to see and study. That it doesn't take millions of years to form canyon, coal, petrified wood.
Kids, teens, and parents you will get and in depth study that will support the evidence of the Biblical account of the flood.
As with all the Awesome Science series the sight are amazing. This has been my family's favorite in this series. The tunnels, caves, and the explosions made the DVD leave you in awe of God's awesome power.
My only complaint is the size of the book. As a homeschooler with many books I would have loved to see a larger book so it doesn't get lost in my books or I would love for it to fit inside the video DVD case. That is minor complaint compared to the quality of this production.
