If you're looking for a parent- and kid-friendly phonics workbook, you've found it in this series. New phonics skills are introduced in each workbook. The Get Ready books teach students how to say and write consonants. The short stories in the Beyond books develop understanding and critical-thinking skills. The "1/2" books provide further practice activities. Teacher's guides feature detailed lesson plans and address key principles. My daughter enjoyed the pictures drawn by kids, and she loved using these workbooks to reinforce her newly acquired reading skills. Grades K to 4. Approx. 100 pages each, softcovers from Educators Publishing. -- Cindy

My son has worked his way thru them for phonics. This book has a couple of new activities. One is reading a short story, 1 page with about 5-6 comprehension questions. Another is fill in the blanks using the 3 syllables to make the word to complete the sentence.
We have used this series for remedial phonics work for my 12 yr old boy. It is otherwise just like the others in the series.
BenTexAustin, TXAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Great ResourceNovember 6, 2015BenTexAustin, TXAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have used this on three boys. I use it has a supplement to First Language Lessons, All About Spelling, and Christian Liberty Press Phonics A, B, & C. I think they get more out of it when I use the exercises in the Teacher's Guide, but I do not always get to them, and I do not do all of the TG exercises-- LOL ! Sometimes they finish three lessons and THEN we do a "crash course" of some the exercises from the Teacher's Guide as a sort of review, quiz, or "test". I only do this delay, because they finish faster than I have the time to do the lessons and I don't want them waiting on me. I have not used the second edition.

In using these in their conversation, and understanding the meaning of these words. And the listener understanding the sentences used by the student.

Q: Explode the Code for a summer extra I was thinking of using Explode the code during the summer. My twins are in 4th grade now, would book 7 or 8 be the best to start with?
Which book you choose to start with depends on what concepts you would like to cover. Book 7 covers Soft c and g Silent Consonants, Word Patterns (ear, ei, eigh), Digraph ph. Book 8 covers Advanced Suffixes and Endings.
