If you're looking for a parent- and kid-friendly phonics workbook, you've found it in this series. New phonics skills are introduced in each workbook. The Get Ready books teach students how to say and write consonants. The short stories in the Beyond books develop understanding and critical-thinking skills. The "1/2" books provide further practice activities. Teacher's guides feature detailed lesson plans and address key principles. My daughter enjoyed the pictures drawn by kids, and she loved using these workbooks to reinforce her newly acquired reading skills. Grades K to 4. Approx. 100 pages each, softcovers from Educators Publishing. -- Cindy

Donna4 Stars Out Of 5November 22, 2011DonnaQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Explode the Code 3 1/2 contains practice with long vowel sounds and digraphs (such as sh and th). The pictures are good; even my student who is an English language learner knew what most of them were. I would have liked more practice with -y as a vowel. Overall, it is a good phonics practice book.
RonnieAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5One Learning Tool We've KeptSeptember 6, 2011RonnieAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5There are many curriculums, workbooks etc. that have come and gone, but we have used ETC from the beginning and have continued with it with each child. It is fun and goes along with whatever Phonics program we have done. My dtr. finished book 3, but still needs more practice in the skills, so 3 1/2 is great!
Cristina Quantz5 Stars Out Of 5Fun workbook for independent childDecember 2, 2010Cristina QuantzQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My 6 yr old loves working through his Explode the Code workbook. The instructions are simple and he can work on his own, although I usually sit with him to make sure that he doesn't rush through the pages. He loves to read the questions because they are fun and silly, although they are very thoughtfully constructed, to incorporate the right words for teaching a certain phonics skill. This is our first experience with Explode the Code, and it has been great.
