Have you ever read a work of great literature and wondered how and why the author created the work they did? IEW's World Literature will introduce you to "deep reading," a way to learn about the contexts of stories, including the historic, literary, and artistic context of the assigned works of world literature, in addition to the plot, setting, characterization and other elements of the text. This workbook provides opportunities for writing practice while students simultaneously grow familiar with some of the greatest writers of all time.
World Literature is a college-preparatory course that will introduce students to great literature from the Western literary tradition, teach them to read with discernment, train them to be self-motivated learners, prepare them for college classes, and help them strengthen their writing skills.
This book includes an assignment schedule, provides organization tips, models of the type of papers students will be writing and an evaluation rubric; units include pointers and a list of recommended resources for research (including audio, music and video suggestions along with topical/contextual resources). Students must obtain copies of the books to read. Each of the eight included units is designed to be completed in four intense weeks.
Grades 9-12. 165 non-reproducible pages, spiralbound softcover; non-consumable worktext as students write their answers outside of the book. 3rd Edition. Book 5 in the Excellence in Literature series.
IEW's Windows to the World & A Syllabus for Introduction to Literary Analysis as well as The Elegant Essay, and either Excellence in Literature: American Literature or Excellence in Literature: British Literature are suggested prerequisites to this course. Prior experience with IEW's Structure and Style is helpful but not required.
