We had just seen a lady touched by God. This lady had been in pain for six years as the result of an accident and she told us she needed carers to help her. After praying for her, all the pain had disappeared from her legs. The previous night she had been crying out and asking God, ‘Where are you?’ Now this lady wanted to scream and shout and tell everyone what God had done for her. As I told this story later to someone who doesn’t yet know Jesus, he stared at me with his mouth open and then rubbing his arms he said, ‘I don’t know what to say, I’ve got goose bumps!’ Every day God wants to show people His perfect love and that He is not distant but kind, compassionate and forgiving. He wants to reveal to people that He is alive, that people can come to Him and know Him. The amazing thing is that He has chosen to use people like you and me to show and tell them. I have a place where I like to sit each morning and spend time with the Father. One morning as I sat reading Psalm 78, I felt God speaking to me. It was one of those times, and I’m sure you’ve known them too, where God’s words seemed to jump off the page as though they were freshly written for me to read in that moment. Tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done . . . teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God. I was so stirred and excited as I read these verses and I felt a fresh sense of urgency to tell and pass on stories of His goodness. Anyone who knows me will know that I am a storyteller; I love hearing and telling stories of what God is doing. One of my favourite things to do is to drink coffee with friends and talk about the things I’ve heard or seen God do. That morning as I meditated on these verses, wanting to respond, I felt God say to me, ‘Keep boasting of My goodness, and keep telling others.’ It was this encounter with God plus other words of prophetic encouragement that led me to write this book. This book of stories is my boast of His goodness.
