SoaringEagleUSAGender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Wisdom for Everyday LivingOctober 3, 2013SoaringEagleUSAGender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5(I am reviewing an e-book copy of this book.) I like starting my day by reading a devotional or two. Wisdom for Everyday Living by Steve M. Woods is one that I enjoyed reading. I probably read a month worth of devotionals.
There are 365 short daily devotionals written by various Christian leaders such as Anne Graham Lotz, Ray Comfort, Woodrow Kroll, Elisa Morgan, and many more. Each devotional starts out with a Bible verse. Some entries want you to look up some Bible verses that are related to the reading for that day. Since it isn't labeled by months, you are able to freely start where ever you want to go. I suppose you could do that to devotionals that have a month and day but I can't. I need to follow things in the right order. *smile*
Some of the readings spoke to me more than others. I liked the ones that make me ponder what I just read throughout my day.
For example this devotional called Just Words...
This reading starts out with a Bible read from James 3:1-12. Then it has one verse written down: Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. - James 3:5. I'm only going to quote some of this entry, the most important parts. "Navy warships are massive mechanical monstrosities costing billions of dollars. For example, the USS Eisenhower weighs about 91,000 tons....But as immense as this ship is, it is piloted by one man controlling a rudder that is just 1/1000th the size of the ship. In James 3:4-5, God's Word compares the words we use to the rudder of a ship....Don't underestimate the power of your words. Words have the capacity to change the direction of your life or someone else's. How are you using the capacity for expression God has given you? Are you using it with wisdom? Proverbs 12:18 reads, "Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." Consider whether God might be calling you to adjust what kinds of words you use, what kind of tone you use, and why it matters....So, what are you doing with "just words"? - written by John V. Hansen- Lead pastor 31 Centerpoint Church, Murrieta, CA.
The above devotional definitely spoke to me. I need to watch my words and tone, especially toward my family. I recommend this devotional to use as part of your quiet time with God.
