I am a historian of Bible translations, and I own many of them. ESV has "copied" errors from the Jewish Setuagint, 250 BC, and from William Tyndale's New Testament, 1526. These errors include the "names of the Gods." I could discern no improvement from Tyndale and the Geneva Bible, 1599. The "Notes" are strictly Dark Ages Roman Catholic. The "time line" is Dark Ages Roman Catholic. The maps are beautiful, and plentiful. There is too much commentary compared to Bible translation. Truthfully, this would be better classified, "A Bible Commentary" rather than, "A Bible Translation."

This is the finest academic study Bible on the market today that I have used. It is of the highest quality for its price range, from the gold-trimmed paper to the genuine leather binding. The layout is well thought out, the commentary is firmly evangelical in perspective, and the resource essays in the back are very helpful in dealing with other religions, the reliability of Scripture, and many other topics.

If you are looking for an all-in-one study resource that combines the equivalent of a multi-volume commentary with a very reliable and readable translation, this is the one for you.

I will warn however that the words of Christ are not in red, and that the commentary, while excellent, is truly a verse by verse commentary, not a "life application commentary". If you would prefer a commentary that is more new believer friendly, the ESV Gospel Transformation Study Bible is a fantastic resource for jumpstarting your new faith.

I bought a Calfskin ESV Study Bible from Christianbook.com. The transaction was flawless. The leather is outstanding quality. The binding is great. The paper is very thin, great quality with minimal ghosting.

The problem: the gold imprints on the spine were smeared badly. The print quality is poor. About 5-10% of pages were either very dark or smeared and blurry.

Crossway replaced my Bible without complain after a 2 1/2 week wait. The new Bible has the same problems but thankfully the printing issue is more limited to a section of 50 pages in the psalms. I will keep this copy since I am convinced that most Crossway products have these inconsistencies. I personally handled two other copies of regular leather ESV SB from Crossway and the printing issues were present there too. Such a shame because this is the BEST study Bible in terms of content

Very disappointed with the ESV Study because the letter are too small and the words of Christ are not in red. If I had known this I would not have made the purchase. I am going to return it or give it away. I am not able to us it for myself.

Have wanted this Bible for quite some time, finally was able to get one,and I am Very impressed the Study Notes are great, the references are very good too.Overall this is just as Described a whole library at your fingertips. I have many study Bibles Different versions, this is my third ESV study bible and it is by far the Best one,I teach Sunday School and Weekly Bible study and this Bible will enhance my studies for sure. Just received it today 05/18/2016 and from just spending a ccouple of hours llooking through iit I have gleaned insights that I had not realized before ,As I said I'm Very I am very impressed with it. Its welll put together Sewn not Glued, it should last a long time, If someone is second guessing this Bible, Take the plunge and realize how much you can get from it, It's focus is on the Glory of the LORD . throughout, plenty of insight and explanation of the Scriptures. Again I Say Thank you for tthis Bible at such a Great Price.I Love Gods Word and rely on it Daily, Bible study just got more interesting.
