The Bible is not like any other book because its ultimate Author is God. As the psalmist prayed in Psalm 119:18, "Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law," the new Reformation Study Bible emphasizes the need for the grace of God to lead out of darkness and into the light of Scripture.
The Reformation Study Bible is carefully crafted to offer an unparalleled reading, study, and discipleship experience for every age and stage of the Christian life.

Ed5 Stars Out Of 5In my opinion, one of the best purchases I have ever madeMarch 22, 2018EdQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have both the Condensed Version and the Original Version of the Reformation Study Bible published by Reformation Trust Publishing, a Ligonier Ministries division. I purchased the original version to use for a home study Bible, and I use the condensed version to take with me when I am away from home i.e. at church, bible study, etc. This review is about the original version. It is absolutely a wonderful work of scholarly effort, combining the Holy Scriptures in the ESV translation with commentary style footnotes....however the footnotes are not fully a commentary. I think that a reformed commentary should be used to supplement this study Bible if one wants to do some serious study. However, the type is readable...(I am 75 years old), the margin notes are readable, the paper quality is excellent (I can use a gel pen to underline and it does not bleed through to the other side). My Bible has quality stitching throughout. It lays flat when you have it open to read. There is an incredible amount of informational material to read if one desires (I do). The scriptures have cross references in the inner margins to help tie together the entire package of the Redemption Story. I just love it. I am so thankful to Dr. Sproul for him seeing this vision of his successfully realized. I have had many bibles in my life, and my most favorite and most marked up was my faithful NASB...It took me a considerable period of time to make the switch. Not that there is anything wrong with my faithful NASB..but this one, the Reformation Study Bible, is like riding a Tennessee Walking Horse compared to riding an American Quarter Horse. If you don't what I'm talking about, I can't explain it. I think that if you get the Original for a study bible and read it as such, you won't be disappointed.
However, I concur with some of the other reviewers that the notes I have read sort of fall below the standard marks set by Dr. Sproul's exegesis of Reformed Theology. While the important and critical Confessions are included, they seem to provide most of the Reformed Theology Apologetics than the notes.
David C.5 Stars Out Of 5First study Bible, absolutely treasure it.February 21, 2018David C.Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Where do I begin? Notes from various pastors and theologians are very much appreciated and consistently interesting. The general editor is R.C. Sproul which means it has the backing of quite possible the best theologian of my life time. I bought the hardcover crimson one and am more than pleased. It comes with a three month trial of Ligonier Connect ($21 value right there), some e books, a neat introduction guide, and sleek slip case.
That being said, this is very much for those that subscribe to reformed theology; if you are Arminian or Lutheran you won't like this study Bible, and should instead go with the more middle of the road ESV study Bible. As for us reformed folk, this is gold.
WillBee1 Stars Out Of 5DisappointingJuly 8, 2017WillBeeQuality: 5Value: 2Meets Expectations: 1I like Dr. Sproul's books, but whoever (probably not him) compiled the notes for this Bible did not take the proper time. Many of these notes are very generic, and some are nearly identical to the standard NIV Study Bible notes and others. Some of the articles are good, probably lifted from Sproul's other writings. But other articles are also quite generic. As a whole, very little of the supplementary writing has anything to do with Reformation Theology, which is why I bought this.
If this is your FIRST study Bible, it is fine. It is not bad.
If you are looking for a study Bible that focuses on teachings of the Reformation, keep looking.

Egon Speneder2 Stars Out Of 5Study Notes almost identical with previous "Sproul Study Bibles", but with a font and lightness of print which is annoying.December 18, 2016Egon SpenederQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This Bible is almost identical with R.C. Sproul's earlier "New Geneva Study Bible" (for the most part "word for word" the same Study Notes, although some editing was done) plus an additional 50 pages of 14 "Topical Articles" was added, plus almost a 100 pages of 10 various Creeds, Confessions, and Catechisms were added, with the usual Concordance, index, maps etc. Instead of it being a 2200 page Bible it's now well over 2500 pages. The big problem I saw was the Font Size and the lightness of the print. If I make a comparison with the older 1995 edition previously mentioned, there is a huge difference in the clarity of the print. I bought two of these Bibles, one in "New King James" (for a friend of mine) and the ESV for myself. I seriously thought of returning them but my "associate" talked me out of it.
