Jacob WilsonAge: 25-34Gender: Male5 Stars Out Of 5A GREAT BIBLE FOR A SPECIFIC PURPOSEMarch 17, 2019Jacob WilsonAge: 25-34Gender: MaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5There has been a lot of noise surrounding this Bible, mainly because it's namesake falls into a premium Bible niche with Preaching Bibles like John MacArthur's 5lb Preacher's Bible. However, what Crossway offers in their Preaching Bible is wholly other.
Crossway's Preaching Bible is a single column, paragraph format text. A lot of buzz was created by those who live and die by preaching from a verse by verse, double column format Bible. However, to Crossway's point, there are many preachers who prefer single column, paragraph Biblesmyself being one of them.
This Bible features a large 10pt font, wide margins (clear of heading unlike the Heirloom Legacy), and boasts 36gsm coated Bible paper. The thickness and opacity of the paper is fantastic. It does make this Bible a little thicker to handle and tote around, but the readability and preachability of the text is superb.
Some negatives: the goatskin cover is really thin. Too thin for my liking. I prefer a slightly thicker cover, especially with a thicker text block like this. The Heirloom Omega and Heirloom Study Bibles are the perfect examples of a cover well done. Also, the ribbons are about as bad as Cambridge ribbons. They are really thin and arrived chewed up.
I'm a huge fan of the Heirloom Legacy. I thought for a second that the Preaching Bible may take the place of the Legacy for me. Bigger text, better paper. Headers in the text itself instead of in the margins. However, the larger typeset shrinks the top and bottom headers. Also, the handfeel and construction of my Heirloom Legacy by Jongbloed just feels so much better.
All that to say, would I recommend this Bible? I would. It's a great reading Bible. A good note-taker. And a decent preaching Bible. And it's on the cheaper spectrum of premiumsaround $129 (at the time of review). **this bible was graciously provided by Crossway for review
