BenCDNSwift Current, SKAge: 18-24Gender: male3 Stars Out Of 5Great bible, bad coverMarch 26, 2011BenCDNSwift Current, SKAge: 18-24Gender: maleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 4This review was written for ESV Personal-Size Study Bible-genuine leather, black.I think the ESV is a great translation, and this study bible combines that with some great notes.
However the "genuine leather" cover isn't really the best quality leather... at all. It's maybe on par with my colleague's Zondervan NIV bonded leather study bible. It's a bit stiff, and while it does lie flat when you open it up to Psalms, it's pretty sketchy at say, Exodus.
Also ever since I opened it, it doesn't stay closed, the cover's always sticking up in the air.
So, great bible, just wish they'd have gone with a better leather quality. Zondervan definitely has the one up on Crossway with their leather value. For example my friend owns a European genuine leather NIV study bible which has a fantastic leather cover, and sells for less than this one. -
KMVD4 Stars Out Of 5March 12, 2011KMVDQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This review was written for ESV Personal-Size Study Bible-genuine leather, black. As the other two reviews, I've very pleased with my new Bible. I have been using the ESV version for about a year, and I love it. When I got back from a mission trip I decided to get a study Bible in ESV. All I could find were those extremely big one's, I really didn't want to lug one of those around because I used to have a NIV one. I searched and searched for a smaller more convenient size and finally found this one, YAY! I'm enjoying it and it's information. At the same time I was pretty disappointed at the fact that there are no red letters in my new Bible, I didn't even think about it when I ordered this Bible. I decided that I'm going to just highlight them with a pink dry highlighter, it might take awhile but to me it's important. I just wanted to let the other people out there that's it's a amazing ESV study Bible but there are no red letters. Hope this was helpful to y'all

It is MUCH smaller and lighter than the regular size though. I highly recommend it.

Erin YezbickFlint, MIAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5outstanding Bible!March 2, 2011Erin YezbickFlint, MIAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for ESV Personal-Size Study Bible, TruTone, Olive Celtic Cross Design.I had given a great deal of thought about switching from KJV to a different version, and after discussing it with several friends and looking through their ESV, I decided to get one. I was talked into getting the study Bible, and I thank that particular friend every time I see her! The notes have been terrific help. The translation is modernized, but it retains the elegance of the KJV. I love it.
I have used a Cambridge calfskin for over 10 years now, so I was hesitant to order an imitation leather product, but this one put my fears at ease. It's going to hold up just fine. The cover of this is the best trutone I've seen. It's not glossy; I guess "supple" would best describe it. The green is very understated--it looks rich.
I'm glad I ordered this size instead of the full size study Bible. That one is just too big for me to feel comfortable carrying it to church.
My one issue is that the pages attached to the cover (not the bulk of the binding) were separated from the bulk of the Bible. They're not in any danger of falling out, but there's a noticeable split. I considered returning it but could tell this would be a common problem with all the Bibles bound this way. I'm going to have a bookbinder work on it for me.
On the whole, I'm VERY pleased with this purchase. My husband is going to get himself one after looking through mine.
