This was a Bible I purchased for myself and thought it was going to be readable. But as it is micro-print and I need at least a 12 point font size in order to read, this Bible will have to be given away to something with super eyes as a gift. The Bible looks nice enough. I wish they made an ESV red letter edition of a personal size Bible with the celtic cross design just as I purchased with the compact Bible. Unfortunately, after spending hours online searching for such an edition of that Bible I could find none. Most all ESV are black letter editions and I just don't like those. This is not to mention the font sizes on the ESV tend to be for young people with super eyes. I wish that design came with both red letter and giant print but sadly it doesn't. The compact Bible may be something others might appreciate who can read its micro-print. So I think the ESV is robbing itself of sales by selling only to people with super eyes and carrying far too many black letter edition Bibles. I do recommend the book to those with super eyes who already like compact Bibles. But the little compact Bible thing just isn't for me. I prefer very larger, extremely heavy Bibles that take at least 4 strong men to lift. I don't mind the weight and durability of the larger Bibles.
This is a compact Bible, so perhaps for the compact category, this is considered as large print. The letter size is actually small. Disappointed with that. The cover feels nice and soft, great imitation leather for sure. Much better than the "gift and reward" Bible that's imitation leather. My son, (who is 11), likes this Bible so I guess it's a go. His favorite color is green, so I was searching for a green bible. This is olive, however, I thought it would be more on the green side. This Bible, (in person), looks black. If you're looking for large print, I wouldn't recommend this particular Bible, I would go with the ESV Hardcover Pew Bible. That is large print, and is great quality.
I am reviewing the ESV large print, compact Bible in coffee imitation leather. One word - Wow! For the price of this Bible I am absolutely amazed. Nice gold page edges, sewn binding, a very readable 8 pt. font, respectable looking imitation leather cover, a rounded spine (as opposed to flat), line matching (not sure if this is intended, but I can't find any that are not matching in my Bible), a lifetime guarantee, a useful concordance, a ribbon marker, and all at a very low weight (great for holding one-handed when reading and teaching). Crossway is really doing ESV readers a wonderful service by offering this very nice, value packed little Bible at such a great price. I have a few high end Bibles by another manufacturer that cost a whole lot more, yet this under $20 ESV puts them to shame for all its features and value. There are no maps or cross-references, but for keeping this Bible at a nice compact size while allowing for a readable font, I could not care less. This is one very nice, inexpensive little Bible!
