blessed1 Stars Out Of 5ESV Complete Bible on MP3 CSsFebruary 21, 2017blessedQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1Very disappointed. I am trying to figure out WHY the Bible would be recorded in such a fragmented, unexciting way. Each sentence is monotone, choppy, with pausing in the WRONG places continually. The Word of God is alive, exciting, joyous. But, you'd never believe it if you listen to this. Really, really disappointed. I'm returning it.

It is a fabulous recording and his deep, rich voice brings the Word alive. Based on that, I had high expectations for this recording, and I was greatly disappointed. This is nothing like the other recording. Stephen's voice sounds quite different and is not nearly as deep or rich. Furthermore, he reads through as though he is reading on the fly without a plan for how is going to tackle each turn of phrase. The reading is also too fast. The quality of the recording is very bad and you can hear the tinny sounds that one hears when a recording is overly compressed. Also when you import the recording into iTunes it sorts alphabetically by book instead of in the order of the books of the Bible. I would recommend Max McLean's ESV Listener's Bible over this recording.

Timothy1 Stars Out Of 5Very DissapointedOctober 18, 2012TimothyQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I really wanted this to work but it doesn't.
PROS: Arrived very fast. Gives me the ability to continuously listen to the Bible without having to stream it over the phone. This is great. Clear recording. Also, FYI: takes just over a GB of space on phone/mp3 player.
CONS: Very difficult to listen to due to the way text is read. The reader pauses at inappropriate places. This sometimes gives the inference that a sentence is finished and then the last few words are read (actually finishing the sentence). It is as if the additional words were a surprise.
The reader's intonation changes up and down a lot. What could be an aid to understanding scripture is a distraction because it causes you to consciously reinterpret what is being said (you have to mentally discard the changes in pitch). Even within single syllables the reader changes pitch - this is not a normal way of reading. I have listened to audio books for years, and I have used the "youVersion" Bible on my android device. Throughout that, I have never listened to an audio book (or presentation) which is as difficult to follow as this.
Here is just one example of the pitch changes which are awkward. When you talk, your voice naturally goes down in pitch at the end of a sentence and up in pitch when you ask a question. In this reading, you must listen to the context (i.e., the next sentence) before you can determine whether the previous section was a sentence or question.
I would have been OK if it were just a "dramatic" reading of the Bible, where words are emphasized or even over-emphasized to aid in meaning. The pitch changes are, unfortunately, random. I am very, very disappointed because I really wanted to be able to use this.
