I own about a dozen study bibles, and compared to any of the others that I read, the ESV Study Bible is the most complete that I own. There are no gaps, there is mostly scholarly material and no guess work involved. The combination of the ESV translation which is highly readable but keeps the meaning of the books intact with the great study material is a winning combination. I highly recommend it.

Lots of nice charts, maps, diagrams and illustrations as well as lots of notes and background material. Works well with Adobe Digital Editions, but not FBReader.

great verse explanations, and the back of the Bible has great additional information on the on other world religions and on cults related to Christianity and how the there beliefs are different from the Bibles teaching.

Within the last 7 years I have purchased FIVE different ESV Study Bibles, including this one. Two for myself and 3 for friends. Every Bible has looked good and been well made. The covers have held up well. You can have confidence in them. The genuine leather cover is a little heavier & stiffer, especially the buffalo leather, & worth the price. A little touch up with with leather cream used for shoes is good for cleaning, protecting & restoring the cover. All 5 of the Bible covers have held up well and have maintained their good looks. That includes one used in Honduras jails by a missionary! Content notes are among the best to be found. The articles & notes are trustworthy & different ideas are presented, not just one view. Introductions are thorough. Maps & charts are plentiful & useful. The ESV Study Bible is THE BEST Bible design ever. The design adds to the clarity and it gives room for brief notes.

If you want a ESV version of a study bible this defiantly exceeds most out there. Print is large and clear ( still not as amazing as Zondervan Comfort Print, thats probably best out there) maps are colorful and clear. Solid study notes. Very Big, Very heavy book.
