Wilson5 Stars Out Of 5Gain deeper understandingJanuary 27, 2020WilsonQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5As reading the Bible without commentary or study versions it becomes difficult to to study deep into the Word of God. This version has been very eye opening to information the common bible reader like myself may not know or know where to find. Truly it has helped be grow deeper in my understanding of what was going on back then. Very much so a blessing to have. Thank God! The Quality was given a 4 simply because when I obtained the book it had a dent in the side of the cover, not a big deal did not affect internal content whatsoever. Very pleased with this product.
Bible Lover5 Stars Out Of 5DisappointedJanuary 14, 2020Bible LoverQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I was really excited to get this bible so much so that I paid extra to have it delivered overnight. I love the ESV translation and own the ESV Study Bible and the John McArthur study bible in this translation. The leather cover was not the soft "genuine leather" that I expected. It felt more like plastic. My Zondervan NIV, HCSB and the CSB all have much nicer, richer leather so this was disappointing. It would have been okay if the leather was the worst part; it wasn't. Because I consider my bible the Holy Word of God, it made me uncomfortable that there was so much information on Egyptian religions and Egyptian gods, including the names of their gods and traditions from that time period. While the information is interesting, I don't know that I needed to know that Psalm 104 (or maybe is was 105, I'm writing this from work) was thought to be similar to a prayer to Aten, as I'd never heard of this god. I would have preferred having the archaeological information as a reference, like a bible dictionary, not included in the bible. I may keep it to use for archaeological information as I'm studying in my study bible, but I wouldn't use this as a bible that I bring to church or bible study. I really like illustrated bibles, like the NLT Illustrated bible and the Zondervan NIV Study bible and the KJV and NKJV Study bibles. I wish ESV would produce a similar product with full color introductory pages and maps, etc.
