mom0902Charlotte, NCAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Solid, Fun Math Program!June 24, 2014mom0902Charlotte, NCAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4We used Envision Math for the first time this year after pulling my son out of public school mid year. I was incredibly nervous about teaching math but Envision Math made it very easy! This program covers all the topics necessary for 2nd grade and prepared my son to flow easily into 3rd grade level math topics before the year was even over! Though the program follows a spiral flow and moves between topics in a random way, it is easy to work around this and pick and choose which topics to teach for better flow. For instance, I chose to teach all of the addition and subtraction together, from single digit to double and triple digit, instead of dividing the concepts up by covering other topics in between. The program consists of a workbook and 2 electronic programs, a Math Quiz Show game and an resource CD-ROM which includes tons of games, extra practice worksheets, ready to use tests, teaching tips and lesson vocabulary. I found the electronic portion of the program to be extremely helpful for review and mastery of concepts. I would use the visual learning bridge in the workbook to teach the concept, my son would work through the workbook page for practice, then he would do either a practice worksheet from the CD-ROM or play the quiz show game. He LOVES the quiz show game and it is fantastic review and practice for the tests! He also loved all of the games I printed out which are also excellent review.
I truly can't say enough about this program. If you have a kinesthetic learner who learns best through hands on learning and games, this is fantastic program. My only critique is that I wish the program had included more teaching tips and/or lesson plans. The visual learning bridge is sufficient for 2nd grade level math, but as we continue on into higher level math, I'm concerned about not having that additional help with how to teach the material. Overall, I highly recommend this program. It prepared my son very well for his end of year test and he scored in the superior range for mathematics - I suppose that speaks for the program better than anything!
KirstenOhioAge: 35-44Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5Terrible Math ProgramOctober 7, 2012KirstenOhioAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1We bought enVision Math grade 2 to give our son a break from what we had been using before moving him on to using Teaching Textbooks for 3rd grade. We thought enVision looked great, and it does "look" great. But it is weak! Very poor program. We were using Math U See so he has an awesome foundation for Math already, enVision was too easy, too scattered in its teaching. Perhaps if you use is from the beginning the patterns they use in teaching might be easier to follow. However you will need to use the CD and online tools for extra work, the worksheets are colorful and look engaging but the content is poor.
We are back to using Math U See and he is back to moving along at a quick pace and enjoying Math. enVision was a huge disappointment and a terrible product to invest your homeschool dollars in.
