Product Description

Going on a short-term outreach, or a long-term outreach for that matter, can be like going into outer space. You leave home fast, and you come down hard! And in between is a totally foreign and completely exhilarating experience. But what happens when you get back home? Will your experience overseas be completely understood by your friends, your local church, and your loved ones? Will you be able to translate the blessings of what you experienced overseas into daily life back home? It is important to ask these questions - and more important to answer them. This book is the key in helping every person involved in missions to come face to face with the key issues of "re-enty."

Though written nearly 15 years ago,"Re Entry" makes observations about reconnecting with Christian community after "ministry", that are timeless.I read it, not as a missionary returning from an overseas assignment, but as a pastor returning from an 8 year tenure in a rural church.Coming back to life in the fifth row of a church after having been at the coal face of leading one is an empirical experience known only to those who have returned, retired or in my case, resigned from vocational Christian Ministry. Its a case of incrementally working through much disconcertion and starting again in an entirely different paradigm and this book by Peter Jordan provides some great practical, philosophical and spiritual insights into the process. Although almost exclusively written for those returning from the mission field, this book provides valuable insights for ex-pastors as well. I simply substituted the term 'missionary' for 'pastor' as I read and found that about 85% of the book was entirely applicable to my situation.Perhaps Mr Jordan my consider re-writing for pastors sometime. In the meantime I heartily recommend his insights in this book.

If you are a Missionary or an MK going between countries or staying in the one you are in, this book is great! It gives helps and tips to both parents and kids about the transitions that happen when switching between countries especially what goes on when returning to the states. Just remember you really aren't alone and no one understands an MK like another MK!
