Many families today experience the profound guilt and shame filled pain of seeing a child walk away from their faith and values. Churches and parents feel powerless to change the relationship and engage the prodigal in positive ways. Carol Barnier has the insight to help. She left the faith of her pastor father, became an active atheist, debated Christians, and explored a variety of worldviews before she found the truth in a relationship with Jesus.
But far more than her personal story, Engaging Today's Prodigal equips readers with a better understanding of a prodigal's motivation, useful responses that won't prevent reconciliation, clear boundaries to protect themselves and other children, actions to take when you know you have contributed to the problem, and the value of realistic expectations. With effective wit and humor, Carol provides material relevant for churches, parents and even the prodigals themselves.
Can your family or church interact with a prodigal in ways that build a relationship bridge that can provide a way back home when they are ready? Let Engaging Today's Prodigal equip you with clear, specific actions that can overcome the shame, hurt, and loss to bring real hope for the future.
jpng5 Stars Out Of 5Great book!January 16, 2016jpngQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We loved this book! It affirmed things that God has been teaching us through the years, we have dealt with our "prodigal" and the book also gave us new insight and peace of mind for the future. It is not only important for parents of prodigals, but also for family and church members to read. We all would be able to better understand and minister to others that have prodigals or to the prodigals themselves.
RS5 Stars Out Of 5Great bookJanuary 14, 2015RSQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Great book for ANYONE that is dealing with a "prodigal". Its nice seeing things from an actual prodigal's viewpoint, what can work, what doesn't and so on. This also isn't just for parents whose children have completely turned their backs on God, it's for sisters, brothers or friends of those that are struggling with their faith and are headed down roads which don't align with Christian values. I found it to be a great help, don't be afraid to pick up this book!

We found it very helpful in a very unique situation that we have been struggling with, namely a same-sex marriage issue in our family.
This book was highly recommended to us by a very wise counselor at Focus on the Family.

But finding someone with parenting prodigal experience who I could actually talk to really helped. christianhelphotline.com Wow, what a blessing! I had no idea a service like that existed, just found it by googling. Thought I would pass it on. I recommended this book to a friend of mind who also has a prodigal daughter. She was glad for the comfort she received from the hotline and the book.

In following the suggestions in this book, I believe we are practicing God's perspective, not mans, so eventually it will become a win-win situation if we "don't lose heart",even though it may take years for our breakthrough.
