Product Description

Many Christians suffer in silence, unsure whether to turn to psychological solutions or biblical teaching. In The End of Worry, William van der Hart and Rob Waller use integrating cutting-edge psychology and orthodox theology, to explain why simply having more faith and trusting in God is only part of the solution to worrying. The authors approach worry as a process rather than a feeling, and produce proven techniques for retraining worrisome thought patterns.

Publishers Weekly

Worry is an inevitable part of being a person and having responsibilities, but for some it can be paralyzing, an impediment to living one’s life. It’s those afflicted by that more pernicious form of anxiety that Anglican vicar Van Der Hart and psychiatrist Waller seek to help with this book. After exploring various causes of worry (and its pernicious tendency to beget more of same), the authors explain how to deal with uncertainty and crises of faith, how worrying can detrimentally affect one’s health, and how to better cope when worry arises. Rather than preach from case studies, the authors share their own experiences with worry and how they’ve dealt with it. Given Van Der Hart and Waller’s different backgrounds, there’s plenty of information that will appeal to Christians and nonbelievers alike, including a compendium of “Prayers and Contemplations for Times of Anxiety,” an appendix of relevant secular and religious texts, and a glossary of useful terms. Numerous practical exercises throughout the book help to reinforce their message. (Feb. 5) 2012 Reed Business Information

Editorial Reviews

"Jesus didn't say, 'There's nothing to worry about,' but 'Don't worry, in spite of everything there is to worry about.' Will van der Hart and Rob Waller tackle this key issue in many people's lives."
"One of the hardest verses in the Bible is ‘Do not worry,’ and I was therefore intrigued by The End of Worry. Well, I couldn't put it down! It is honest, humorous, and holistic. I was re-educated and I am already seeing the benefits."
"A very thoughtful, balanced and practical approach to the reality of anxiety. The authors have authority to write on worry, not only because they know the subject very well, but especially because they have a passion to help others with the same spirit as the Great Physician: reaching the whole person and not only their emotions. The End of Worry goes far beyond the practical help of a mere self-help book; it is a therapeutic tool that is solidly founded on the Scriptures."
"This for me is a brilliant example of exactly what a good self-help book should look like and so seldom does. If you have a tendency to worry then this book really is highly recommended reading, and if you are in a position of pastoral oversight then this is also well worth looking at for the insights it can offer."
"The End of Worry is the best book I have personally read on this subject. It is a compassionate book as well as being practical and well-researched, drawing on the best of Christian theology and psychological insight."

Will van der Hart and Rob Waller in their new book "The End of Worry" published by Howard Books explain Why We Worry and How to Stop.

From the back cover: Do you find yourself worrying and unable to stop?

Does worry consume your days and keep you up at night?

Do you know that worry doesn't help, but you keep worrying anyway? If you are holding this book, it's likely that you or someone you know has a problem with worry.Within these pages, you will find an understanding of what worry is, why we worry, and how to worry less.

This easy-to-read mix of cutting-edge psychology, biblical teaching, personal experience, plentiful anecdotes, and practical exercises will help anxious readers overcome the troubling problem of worry and find new joy in every day.

My Pastor had a sign on his desk that read, "I know that worry works, 99.5% of what I worry about doesn't happen." When you read the Gospels we find, on more than one occasion, Jesus told His disciples not to be concerned or not to worry. Why is it that this command of His is one of the hardest to obey? Well Will van der Hart and Rob Waller to our rescue. These are men who knew how to worry even being involved in ministry. In eight chapters these two men delve into just what worry is, why we worry, what happens when we worry, the worry fuel and then they swing around and attack worry with faith and then with hope and give us the ability to take action. When we don't understand what our problem is we really cannot do anything to get rid of it. "The End of Worry" lives up to its title. If we follow what the authors have written then we can begin to be rid of worry both now and any future time it shows its ugly head. This book should be read by everyone as none of us are immune. It is perfect to give as gifts to family and friends so that they, also, will get rid of worry in their lives and thank you for it. I recommend this book highly!
