5 Stars Out Of 5
Excellent for Everyone from Pastors to Home School

Absolutely Excellent. Have you ever just wanted a book that tells you about the culture Jesus lived in? And, why the people living in those times were so upset by Jesus? This is that book! The writing is great. It is conversational in tone (some big words are used, but it should still be fine for 5th grade and older to read. I think it is great to use for under 5th grade with a parent to discuss the photos or for those information-detail oriented kids). The author explains customs and life in the time of Jesus and explains why the meetings Jesus had with local people were so astonishing and upsetting to the community he lived in. For example, the military background of Rome in the chapter "The Centurion of Capernaum" is amazing, and short. This book would be great for anyone who wants some cultural background to discuss in group Bible Study or teach in Sunday School (you will look so smart!), or to mention in a sermon or paper, or use in home schooling. You can read the chapters in the order you want. The conclusion summarizes the points of the story. It's a paperback. It has color photos that show land, buildings, coins, dress, maps etc, that illustrate the writing. I'm so glad I bought it! I guess I just wish it was hardcover!
