Kendra5 Stars Out Of 5great introduction to women of faithMay 26, 2019KendraCatherine Parks shares brief biographies of eleven women who were empowered by God to do amazing things for his kingdom. With simple language (including definitions for difficult words), larger print and wide spacing, this book is perfect for introducing girls ages 9-12 to these women of faith. Each chapter features a brief biography, followed by a short devotional-type reflection and four to six questions to help the reader apply Scripture and the lesson to her own life.
The women featured are as follows: Esther An Kim: Strength, Sophie Scholl: Justice, Corrie ten Boom: Love,Betsie ten Boom: Gratitude, Pandita Ramabai: Fearing God, not Man, Elisabeth Elliot: Obedience, Phillis Wheatley: Using Your Talents, Joni Earekson Tada: Living Abundantly, Fanny Crosby: Kindness, Charlotte Forten Grimke: Godly Ambition, Annie Armstrong: Faithfulness.
I thought the author did a good job of selecting a wide variety of women to feature. She emphasized how these were just ordinary women who loved God and allowed him to use them in and in spite of their weaknesses and suffering. I also liked that she didn't stop with just the biography, but included the application section to help readers really learn from the lives and experiences of these women. I would be glad for my daughter to read this book when she is older.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher (B&H) in exchange for my review.

In her book, Catherine Parks looks at eleven different women and the impact they have had. Catherine also relates these stories to girls today and how they can impact those around them. I would highly recommend this book for girls ages 9 and up. I love the discussion questions at the end of each chapter and thoughts to make the stories relevant.
Kids today need heroes to look up to. In her book Catherine shares the lives of Corrie ten Boom, Eather Ahn Kim, Sophie School, Betsie ten Boom, Pandita Ramabai, Elisabeth Elliot, Phillis Wheatley, Joni Eareckson Tada, Fanny Crosby, Charlotte Forten Grimke and Annie Armstrong.

Momof45 Stars Out Of 5Every girl should read this book!May 23, 2019Momof4Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have to admit, I'm very tired of constantly seeing blog posts and T-shirts and books and articles and advertisements about "girl power". (It's not that I think girls aren't equal to boys; this isn't the place for a full discussion on that.) So, when I saw the selection of books offered for review I was afraid this would just be more of the same stuff. It's NOT! This book is exactly what true female empowerment should be about: living a life of total surrender to Godbeing who He wants them to be. True freedom...true worth...will only be found in finding His strength and power in our weakness and allowing Him to work through us. Through the stories of eleven women Catherine Parks encourages girls to do amazing things. Faithfulness and dedication are the keys to true success, and this book makes that clear. It's a beautiful, well written collection of mini-biographies that will draw the reader in from the very first page. It's a book that is very needed right now, and I highly recommend it for every girl on your life.
