Emotionally Healthy Discipleship Rocked My World!

I have been a Pastors wife for over 30 years, and I keep thinking, Where has this book been all my life! I can see so may struggles and heartaches that could have been less devastating had we understood the concepts that Peter has authored so well. This book has challenged my mind, heart and soul, bringing me closer to the Fathers heart in all areas of my life, but especially in ministry. It has become one of my most used resources as I disciple women in their daily walk with Jesus. Although the material is challenging, in a sense that it makes you think deeply, Peter is so down to earth. His ability to present this material in a genuine, transparent way shows me that he has lived what he writes, and it has been transformational. He is the real deal! I highly recommend Emotionally Healthy Discipleship to everyone, but I believe it is an essential tool for ministry leaders. May it rock your world, too!

    Must read!

Pete knocks it out of the park again with this one. The book is simple to read with helpful, vulnerable stories and examples from his own life. I love the challenge to move beyond Americanized Christianity that "is a mile wide but only an inch deep." The call to dig beneath the surface and remove our mask so that we can allow God to deeply shape and transform us is powerful and worth the hard work it takes. Please read this book thoughtfully and allow yourself adequate time to reflect and pray and seek God. Do the genogram and consider its relevance to your life now. It may be scary to dig deep but the transformation to freedom and deeper relationship with God is so worth it!

I have been a Christian for more then 20 years and have pastored for the last 17 years. I have always struggled with the external behavioural activities that we encourage people to apply which translates into very little life change. The transformed Christian life into the likeness of Jesus always seems so out of reach. Pete, in his fantastic new book, "Emotionally Healthy Discipleship," tackles this very issue. It gives Church leaders like me, a blue print on how we can journey with our people into a depth of spirituality that actually changes us from the inside out. This is really the launch pad to the whole Emotionally Healthy journey. It gives us a roadmap of what to expect on the journey. I have been inspired to continue applying the principles learnt to my life and in how I lead in my local church. Wherever you find yourself on this faith journey, I encourage you to start with this book!

I have lead the Emotionally Healthy Spirituality course several times and personally benefitted from applying the principles outlined in that material. I anticipated the same from this new work and was not disappointed. Pete accurately describes the poor state of discipleship in America and offers a pathway to a healthy discipleship culture in the local church. He once again has brought depth to the challenging topic of discipleship. This work provides clarity to the discipleship pathway while recognizing that the answers to the shallow or unhealthy discipleship prevalent today are not quick or easy. This is a masterful resource for any leader who wants to create a healthy culture of disciple making that produces healthy disciple makers. It will be the wise church leaders who prayerfully consider the content in this resource and implement the EH Discipleship course.

I was looking forward to reading this book because I enjoyed previous work by Pete Scazzero. I found this book even richer and deeper than his previous books.

Even though I scored relatively Mature on the Personal Assessment, this book has stretched me in significant ways - both for my ongoing personal discipleship journey and in leading others to further become more like Jesus. I've realized for some time that the common discipleship paradigms the Christian church has employed are sorely lacking. Even if they bring Biblical knowledge, people's lives rarely change much. The paradigm presented in this book is totally different. The whole point is about deep transformation, true change from the inside out. And it's amazing how practical this book is in helping that happen in someone's life.

I especially appreciated Chapter 7, Make Love the Measure of Maturity. What does loving well, loving like Jesus, look like? How do we get there? How do we know if we're loving like Him? This chapter provided a clearer picture of that than any I've seen anywhere. This picture of loving well is both incredibly challenging and totally liberating. (And for any who think loving well means tolerance, this will totally disrupt that idea.)

Anyone who cares about becoming more like Jesus will find this book super helpful. And for anyone who cares about helping others become disciples of Jesus, this book will stretch you and liberate you at the same time.

    Highly recommended!
