"I don't know what to say."
You've probably heard that statement many times from well meaning people when a friend or family member is going through a difficult time. First Aid for Emotional Hurts will provide pastors and laypeople with the tools and knowledge needed to help the hurting. Edward E. Moody Jr. speaks with a qualified voice about the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs faced in today's society. He also gives appropriate resources for situations requiring professional help and contact information for many organizations providing such help. This book provides a Biblical model for helping others, as well as an overview of situations one may face when dealing with emotional and mental trauma.

Tell us a little about yourself. I am a parent, spouse, pastor and professor. I've worked with troubled youth in correctional settings and helped people with various problems as a minister. I have a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in counselor education, an M.A. in clinical psychology from Middle Tennessee State University and a B.A. in Pastoral Training from Free Will Baptist Bible College. My experiences as a pastor, psychological consultant and counselor educator uniquely prepared me to write this book.
What was your motivation behind this project? I believe that many people feel helpless when someone they care about is hurting emotionally. My goal with "First Aid" was to provide them with the tools they needed to help.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? After reading "First Aid" I hope people will leave with concrete steps to help those around them who are struggling with emotional difficulties. My hope is that they will be empowered to bear the emotional burdens of others without being overwhelmed by those problems.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? The vast resources available for those hurting emotionally were greater than I had anticipated.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? H. Norman Wright, James Dobson, C. S. Lewis.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: The website FirstAidForEmotionalHurts.com has links to the resources that are referenced throughout the book. There is also a blog at the site where I regularly address ways to help others.
