Emily deals with stiff, stern Aunt Elizabeth and her malicious classmates by holding her head high and using her quick wit. Things begin to change when she makes friends with Teddy, who does marvelous drawings; with Perry, who's sailed all over the world with his father yet has never been to school; and above all, with Ilse, a tomboy with a blazing temper. Amazingly, Emily finds New Moon beautiful and fascinating. With new friends and adventures, Emily might someday think of herself as Emily of New Moon. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Pamela5 Stars Out Of 5September 27, 2005PamelaI grew up reading Anne of Green Gables, but now in my 30s I read Emily of New Moon for the first time. I loved it! In fact, I stayed up until 2 AM this morning just to finish it. Emily has the same charm as Anne with a different personality. I can't wait to read the rest in the series.
Naomi5 Stars Out Of 5November 21, 2003NaomiI love this book very much! I was surprised that it is not as well known as the Anne books. Lucy Maud Montgomery describes things in such terms that it makes you feel as if you were there. One of my favorite things was Emily Byrd Starr's thoughts on what everyone said. She would make such remarks that I laughed a couple of times during the book. I am thirteen and I like this book. I think adults would like it, and imaginative pre-teens and up. I would highly recamend it to my kind. I could completely understand Emily, but some might not like her imaginative ways. I can not wait to read the other two Emily books! I borrowed this book from the library and liked it so much that I want to own the whole series. It's on my Christmas list for sure!
