Emily of New Moon
October 16, 2016
I don't know about witchcraft, could just be a child's attempt to deal with the death of her mother, not anything I would want children to learn about. It was much too sad for my grandchildren and for me. She is beaten severely with a stick by her school teacher, When she tries to stop him from beating another child simply for being an American Indian. She loses both parents. Has cruel things happen to her. Perhaps there is a happy ending but I couldn't get through all the sadness to reach it.
Disappointed because there are subtle influences of witchcraft in it. From the first episode, Emily has a mirror that talks to her. After her father's death, she sits with his body performing a ritual in an attempt to get good spirits to carry him away...she loves graveyards & repeatedly carries on conversations with her dead ancestors.
