FisherFamilyWinnipeg, MB CanadaAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Real Life Math Problems to understand AlgebraSeptember 24, 2022FisherFamilyWinnipeg, MB CanadaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We have homeschooled for 10+ years in Canada and have tried many different types of Math Curriculum. Before this I purchased MUS Algebra, which was very good but did not explain concepts in real life, which my son needed, and way more explanations that I needed as teacher. I looked at samples online of this product and from what I saw it really explained concepts in real life, for instance: Slope is explained by the different angles of a donkey going up and down a hill, levers are explained with Solving by Substitution using a seesaw. This may sound silly but I missed some of these concepts myself back in high school and reading this textbook has even helped me fill in the blanks to understand Algebra much more clearly. I paid for this product myself, not endorsed in any way. It was a tad expensive buying the whole set but we really needed all parts including the DVD. I was going to purchase a 2nd Teachers Guide for my daughter, which has the tests and Worksheets for SET III but I may not. We use a separate lined notebook for daily lessons. The daily schedule says to only do SETS I,II, and IV (approx 50 question between these). Set III is for extra work. We may only use SET III when we are needing extra help with a lesson. I love the plan in the Teacher Guide that my son can follow and check off so he is in control of his daily learning. He is in Grade10.
Here is his schedule that is working very well: He has regular lessons (Math,L.A.,S.S.,Science) Monday - Thursday with 30 min of math morning and afternoon. Friday is a catch-up day and watch a lesson on the DVD, extra curricular, and my marking day. So far he is averaging 90 percent.
