Tell us a little about yourself. Randy Schroeder, Ph.D., M.Div., M.Ed.
Dr. Randy Schroeder wrote the 2020 three-time national award-winning Christian marriage book, Simple Habits for Marital Happiness: Practical Skills and Tools That Build a Strong Satisfying Relationship. He also wrote the popular 2021 Christian parenting book, Simple Habits for Effective Parenting: Specific Skills and Tools That Achieve Extraordinary Results in Raising a Child.
For more than four decades through his writing, speaking, counseling, and teaching, Dr. Schroeder thoroughly enjoys enhancing individual lives, enriching couple relationships, and educating parents with commonsense wisdom. He is an enthusiastic speaker who is motivated to enhance the lives of others.
After graduating from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1986, Dr. Schroeder became a Professor of Pastoral Counseling, Vice President of Student Personnel Services, and Dean of Students. For 25 years he taught classes in family counseling, marriage counseling, premarital counseling, crisis counseling, and more. As a Professor of Pastoral Counseling, it was a privilege and joy for Dr. Schroeder to teach pastors how to counsel individuals, marital couples, parents, and families in their future churches
What was your motivation behind this project? I am passionate about educating parents with the practical specific words, behaviors, and knowledge that will help in leading a child to be self-motivated, self-confident, and a responsible Godly individual. SIMPLE HABITS FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING is the only parenting book that covers all seven main areas in guiding a child to become a Godly decision-maker.
I am also on a mission to improve and strengthen marriage and at the same time to prevent divorce which is why I wrote the three-time national award-winning SIMPLE HABITS FOR MARITAL HAPPINESS. Desire alone is not sufficient for satisfying relationships, parents and spouses, need to know what to say and how to say it as well as what to do and how practically to do it. Spouses and parents benefit from specific words and behaviors not really concepts or generalities.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I pray that spouses and parents will finally have complete Christian manuals that will provide the "know how" for a satisfying marriage and a rewarding parent-child relationship.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I have helped well over 1,500 couples achieve a gratifying marriage by sharing practical skills, words, and behaviors. In addition, through my speaking, counseling, and writing thousands of parents have learned how to strengthen faith in Jesus, build a strong parent-child relationship, and meaningfully apply loving discipline. I strongly desire to help marriages and couples through SIMPLE HABITS FOR MARITAL HAPPINESS and SIMPLE HABITS FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Focus on the Family influenced my mission to help marriages and parents. Authors that have inspired me are Gary Chapman, John Maxwell, Tim Keller, Shaunti Feldhahn, Charles Stanley, Max Lucado, just to name a few.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Recently, Focus on the Family informed me that my SIMPLE HABITS FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING interview (aired on July 19) was chosen as the best Focus on the Family Parenting interview for 2021. Focus on the Family plans to rerun my Parenting interview on Friday, December 31.
On Wednesday, November 10, I joined Jim Daly, President, and John Fuller, Vice President for another Focus on the Family national broadcast interview to discuss SIMPLE HABITS FOR MARITAL HAPPINESS. Last week, I received a letter from Jim Daly, and he shared the air date for my Focus on the Family Marriage interview will be Friday, January 7, 2022.
