This was a lighthearted, fun book, with just enough mystery and suspense to make it appeal more than just romance readers. Just as I was sure I had figured out the end of the book, an unexpected turn of events peaked a renewed interest in me, carrying through to the last page. Although it takes place in Scotland, I did not find myself distracted by unfamiliar foreign words or accents. JoAnn did an excellent job of giving it a Scottish feel without breaking the flow of the story. Spiritual threads are woven throughout the story with an emphasis on trusting God in lifes decisions, and finding a peace in His leading.
Christine LindsayBritish Columbia, CanadaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful Romance set in Bonny ScotlandOctober 15, 2014Christine LindsayBritish Columbia, CanadaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleIn Echoes of Edinburgh, Shelby Harmon leaves her beloved Lexington Kentucky and flies to Scotland to fulfil her father's dying wish. She hand delivers a letter to his oldest and dearest friend, a former decorated American soldier. Robert Nicols appears to be only the caretaker of a famous Scottish castle, when in fact he is much, more. This is just one of the many details that this author layers in her sweet and yet full romances.
I've come to love and expect exquiste overtones from the past in JoAnn Durgin's novels, which add such depth and authenticity to the story.
In Echoes of Edinburgh, while the reader has her heart firmly planted at home on American soil, she is taken on a lovely tour of bonny Scotland as seen through the eyes of Shelby, a young woman who didn't realize how much she longed for romance with a strong and godly man. Enter, Harrison Reed, the young friend of Robert Nicols.
This young couple falling in love, and the struggles they must overcome to find a lifetime spouse, are beautifully set against the Scottish landscape.
As a person born on British soil, I love all things English, Welsh, Irish, and Scottish, and JoAnn Durgin shows that she has actually spent time in Scotland. Her details of the country, its colorful culture, its cuisine, hilarious dialects, its boisterous music, and the gentle Scottish humor, all weave together to take the reader on a holiday along with a very satisfying Christian romance.
I LOVED Echoes of Edinburgh.
