Q: Is this teacher's guide necessary for home educators? The product description says this text is "best suited for classroom use." Does this mean that homeschoolers can get by without it?

The Student Textbook will have teaching instructions at the bottom of each worksheet but the teaching instructions for the Activity Book are included in the Teacher's Guide. However, the lessons in the Activity Book correspond with the Textbook so they shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
