This book is life changing. I have a different outlook on my walk with Christ and a better understanding of my walk with Christ. This book is a must read.

Piper shines here as he calls the reader to embrace the truly important things of life. He begins this volume with a quest to find a single passion by which to live. Having found it in the glory of God through the cross of Christ, he then emphasizes the necessity of taking risks as believers. Nothing is accomplished without risk. He ends the book with a mission thrust, encouraging the reader to go into the world to make a difference for God.Piper is a prophetic, 21st century theologian who writes with a passion for Biblical truth and for the glory of God. There are several authors who have written great books, but there are far fewer great authors. Piper is a great author.

If Green Bay Packer coach Vince Lombardi were alive today writing a book as a follower of Christ, this would be it. Lombardi was a demanding coach who not only trained his athletes for success on the gridiron, but in life as well. Piper expects nothing less than greatness from his readers and greatness defined not by the worlds standards, but by the transcendent principles that truly give this life meaning and purpose. Piper is equally challenging and encouraging a great mix that makes the book enjoyable to read while at the same time hitting you over the head with a 2 x 4 (in love, of course)! The great thing about this book is that the reader cant avoid Pipers primary point that he drives home again and again its not about you! A life well lived is about bringing glory to the One who has not only given us life, but given that life meaning and significance. And Piper notes that every follower of Christ should expect some of the same reception that the One they follow received while He was walking this earth one marked by suffering and sacrifice. But the book isnt just a good spiritual pep talk, its practical as well. Piper takes a good hard look right at the heart of the matter our time, talents and treasures and challenges the reader to use what they already have, where they already are, to the glory of God! At the end, Piper reminds the reader that the Christian walk is not solely relegated to their own personal growth and maturity, but that each follower of Christ is a model for others to examine the claims of Christ in the lives of each and every profession Christian. Christians are to be mission-minded, other-centered and self-sacrificing for the Kingdom Piper writes that if these characteristics mark a persons life, it will have been a life well-lived and wasting your life isnt an option for a person whose life was redeemed by God!

John Piper effectively articulates the importance of rightly worshipping God which, simultaneously, satisfies man's longing in his soul. The only drawback about this book is that Piper's delivery is sometimes repititious throughout the book("I get the point..."), but nonetheless, the book is worth the read. I'm telling you, buy the book and read at least Chapter 7. It will challenge you, cause you to think about getting out of your comfort zone and think about those things that are REALLY important in your life. God alone should be the object of our affection and everything else is dross(Philipp 3:8, Heb 12:1-2).

This book is yet another gift from God through the ministry of John Piper. Piper's passion shines through in this compelling plea for people to stop wasting their lives on wordly trivialities with its fleeting pleasures. God is infinitely valuable and infinitely glorious. Everyone, young or old, must read this book.
