Tell us a little about yourself. Michael J. McDermott's life reads like an epic novel, filled with adventure, resilience, and a dash of serendipity. Born under the wide skies of the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, North Carolina, in September 1949, Michael's childhood was a cross-country odyssey, shadowing his father's Marine Corps assignments. From the green expanses of Millington, Tennessee, to the sunny streets of Anaheim, California, each move added a new patch to the rich quilt of his early years, instilling in him a lifelong adaptability and a boundless curiosity about the world and its stories.
Michael's career is a testament to his dual commitment to service and scholarship. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1967 and faced the harsh realities of the Vietnam conflict. His military journey continued through the California National Guard and the US Army, culminating in the aftermath of Desert Storm. Parallel to his military service, Michael pursued academic excellence, graduating as Valedictorian from Barkley College with a Law Diploma, and later earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Technology and a Master's and Doctorate in Theology and Eschatology at the sprightly age of 70. Clearly, he wasn't about to let something as trivial as age slow him down.
In the aftermath of his military and entrepreneurial ventures, Michael found his true calling in serving the disabled and elderly, dedicating over two decades to this noble cause. Yet, it's in the everyday moments where he finds the greatest joy - whether hosting family barbecues, enjoying quiet evenings with Faye and their dogs, or indulging in movie nights with coffee and popcorn.
What was your motivation behind this project? The motivation behind "Divine Journey: Moments with the Savior" is deeply rooted in my profound love of God, Jesus Christ, and His inspired Word. This book is a heartfelt expression of my devotion and reverence for the divine truths that have shaped my life. My goal is to share the transformative power of God's Word, to inspire faith, and to offer readers a deeper understanding of Jesus' life and teachings. Every page is written with the hope that it will touch hearts, ignite faith, and bring readers closer to the Savior.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Through "Divine Journey: Moments with the Savior," I hope readers will gain a deeper connection to the Word of God and a renewed interest in exploring its profound truths. This novel is crafted with the intention of making the teachings of Jesus Christ accessible, engaging, and transformative. I pray that readers will find the story as fun and interesting to read as it was for me to write, and that it will inspire them to seek a closer relationship with God and a greater understanding of His divine love and grace.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Working on "Divine Journey: Moments with the Savior" has profoundly impacted me on a personal and spiritual level. My influences and sources of inspiration include esteemed figures and authors who have significantly shaped my understanding and passion for biblical prophecy and Christian teachings. These include Hal Lindsey, Amir Tsarfati, Chuck Missler, David Jeremiah, Kirk Cameron, Tim LaHaye, and my pastor, Jack Hibbs. Their profound insights and dedication to spreading the Word of God have deeply impacted my writing and spiritual journey. Each of these individuals has contributed uniquely to my perspective, enriching my approach to crafting stories that are both engaging and spiritually edifying.
