This is an excellent set of lectures for the Saxon Calculus book. Dr. Shormann does a better job of explaining and demonstrating than the book's lessons do.

Of course, as well as it describes the concepts, this CD is worth only so much without the corresponding book's sets of practice problems.

Great program, but know this before buying...

I think that this is a wonderful program, based on the little bit that we used it. I bought it to TRY with my youngest daughter in her senior year, not sure exactly what we'd be doing and thinking I could resell the Saxon text and DIVE program when finished. Long story short, after using DIVE briefly, we switched math gears for various reasons, and when I went to resell it, I found out that I couldn't do that because of the EULA (End Users License Agreement.) I can't even give it to a friend! It is completely non-transferable (legally.)

My big beef is that this was not mentioned in the sales description, and I wouldn't have bought the program had I known. It does say it on the CD packaging, but evidently I missed it, perhaps because I didn't expect, perhaps since most non-OEM software today IS transferable if you remove it from your computer first.

So DIVE is definitely a great value if you use the entire program, and especially if you have a number of kids in your family that will use it. But it was not at all a good value for us!

This is an excellent companion to the Saxon curriculum. Dr. Shormann takes the student through the study of calculus lesson by lesson. He has a very careful and concise style that clarifies each concept. I think calculus would have been incredibly difficult without the DIVE CD. With it, we could easily include calculus in our home school curriculum and have each lesson available on CD.

I ordered the dvd version of the DIVE Calculus lessons, hoping to use it with my homeschooled senior. I also hoped to use the included CLEP/AP prep program.

On arrival, the dvd would not play in my new Mac computer. After several phone calls over several days and several hours on the phone with DIVE customer service, it still wouldn't work, so I attempted to return the discs to Christian Book. Because of the return policy attached to DIVE products (mentioned in other reviews), I could not return the product to Christian Book but had to return directly to DIVE. The return policy for these discs is that there is NO return policy for a package that has been opened for any reason, including opening the package to attempt to use the product.

After mailing the disc directly to DIVE, they offered to send me links to their streaming service for the Calculus lessons and the AP exam prep lessons. In order to access the streaming service, I had to receive multiple emails with multiple links, including downloads, with a minimum of 18 steps in order to access the lessons. Some of the steps involved turning off safety filters for my internet browser and downloading a video player that my computer told me would no longer be supported due to age and technical difficulties. After all of these steps, the streaming links wouldn't work. More hours over several days on the phone to DIVE customer service with no result.

By this time several weeks had passed and I still had no useable product. I asked DIVE directly for a refund which they refused in no uncertain terms.

Christian Book stepped in at this point and offered me a refund. The Christian Book customer service was pleasant and helpful to work with, and I'm only sorry that they had to pick up the tab for the DIVE company, who should have been the ones to issue the refund.

In our homeschool, we have been able to happily, easily, and intuitively use dvd-based and streaming-based curricula from many other companies on our current computer. It seems the DIVE curriculum is becoming outdated and unable to keep up with changes in technology. Coupled with their extreme anti-return policy, as mentioned in other reviews, I would have to advise against purchasing from DIVE until the curriculum is updated and the customer service actually considers the customer.
