It's not going to make you "rich" by any means, but it gives you the tools and tips on cutting down on what you buy. I loved her humor through out the book. If over spending has got you in a rut, then this book is just what you need. She goes through on how to cut down on spending...starting with credit cards!! At the end of the chapters you will find questions and activities to get you on the path to spending control. I really loved this book. I've read many books on how to get your spending under control...but this one is by far my favorite. It was so easy to read...it was just like sitting down with a friend and chatting.
Debbie3 Stars Out Of 5April 30, 2010DebbieThe author of Divanomics is a self-proclaimed diva, who chronicles her story of financial difficulties and provides motivation and numerous tips for others who have the need or desire to live a more frugal lifestyle. Miss Hammond earned a lot of money and lived a life of extravagance, enjoying all the nicer things of life such as designer clothes and elegant restaurants. When her finances took a hit, she was forced to reevaluate not only her out-of-control expenses, but her attitude toward possessions, money, and life.I realize that many people have serious spending problems and this book could be very motivating for them. I, personally, had trouble relating to the author. I am thrifty by nature and even her money-saving tips were extravagant by my standards. I was amused by her excitement that Walmart and Target had lots of stuff at low prices. I did like that the book was entertaining to read, included many personal examples, and focused not only on methods for the reader to live within a budget, but the attitudes behind overspending.I was provided a free review copy of this book by Tyndale House Publishers.
Shannon4 Stars Out Of 5April 25, 2010ShannonMichelle McKinney Hammond was a highly successful writer, co-host of an Emmy-winning talk show, appearing all over the world in magazines, on television and in person, living a fabulous life when suddenly she found herself broke and in debt. How did she get there? More importantly, how was she going to remain fabulous? In Divanomics, Michelle McKinney Hammond shows that we don't need to give up our entire lives to get out of debt. Yes, it is possible to remain fabulous when you are broke.Divanomics is a basic book about reducing debt aimed at women. Hammond does not pretend to be a financial expert, she is simply relaying what has worked for her. Each chapter is short and focuses on a different way of living. There are the traditional pieces of financial advice - getting rid of credit cards, starting a budget, using an envelope system. And there are more "diva" pieces of advice - how to eat at fancy restaurants for cheap, how to get designer clothing at less than what you've been spending and how to afford all your beauty products. On top of all of this, Hammond weaves through the book Biblical teachings on finance and stewardship to show us that while we may be going through a rough time financially, God is still watching over us and will not leave us destitute.Divanomics isn't going to teach you how to have millions saved for retirement, or give you a solid debt repayment plan, but it will show you practical ways to cut down your spending and save your money. If your diva lifestyle has left you in debt and you don't know where to start to get out of it, this book is the one for you. And no one will know you're having money problems because you will still be just as fabulous as before.I received this book compliments of Tyndale House Publishers to review. The opinions I have expressed are purely my own.
