All of creation is content to be what it was made to be except us. Fish flourish in water. Ants are not worried about their size. But we waste time on the three C's - comparing, competing, coveting. We aim at the bull's-eye on someone else's board, pursuing a race we weren't equipped to run.
In Distinctly You, author Cheryl Martin shows women how to develop their God-given uniqueness rather than becoming fixated on what they are not or do not have. She unveils the actions and attitudes that may be sabotaging women and explores ways women can engage and build up their unique talents, interests, and strengths. Readers will be inspired by examples in the Old and New Testaments of people who were exceptional for God's kingdom. As the author shares her ongoing quest to be distinct for his glory, readers see how God created them to thrive.
Includes end-of-chapter questions for individual or group use.

Brianna4 Stars Out Of 5Book Review: Distinctly YouMay 13, 2016BriannaQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Distinctly You is an enjoyable and easy read. The subtitle of the book, trading comparison and competition for freedom and fulfillment says a lot about the content of the book. Author Cheryl Martin includes personal stories, Scripture, and advice to challenge her readers.
Martin divides Distinctly You into two sections. The first section, Distinctly You Blockers reviews several habits and perspectives that contribute to the pressure of competition and comparison. The second section, Distinctly You Builders highlights numerous habits to cultivate being yourself with confidence.
I appreciated the short length of most chapters, which made Distinctly You conducive to daily reading. Martin closes each chapter with several personal reflection or group discussion questions, as well as occasional nuggets of wisdom, encouragement, or challenge. I think Distinctly You would be an excellent choice for a small group study, mentor or accountability relationship, or personal use.

I'm really excited to review this one but, first things first, I was given a copy of this book by Bethany House publishers in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed below are mine alone.
Now, on to the fun stuff. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from this book because I had never heard of its author Cheryl Martin but the cover was beautiful and I was really interested in the subject matter, "trading comparison and competition for freedom and fulfillment". I decided to give it a shot and I'm glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed Cheryl's writing style. She's eloquent, but writes in a way that everyone can understand, humble but not self degrading.
The chapters aren't long, but they do pack a punch. Each one is unique in it's own way and covers an aspect of trading comparison and competition and finding freedom and fulfillment. The first chapters focus on distinctly you blockers.Things that keep us from being distinctly us, who God intended us to be. She describes each blocker in detail and then shares how that blocker worked in her life to keep her from being distinct. She follows each chapter up with a series of five to six questions for the reader to work through in order to help them spot problem areas in their life and to work towards a solution.
The second half of the book focuses on distinctly you builders. These are things you can do or character traits to work on to become the person God called you to be. Just like in the first half Cheryl shares experiences from her own life but she also uses biblical examples we can learn from. She also includes a series of questions for the reader to complete to know what the reader needs to work on and where they're doing well.
I believe Distinctly You is an invaluable tool for women of all ages. I learned a ton about myself and how I let self doubt and opinions of others keep me from being distinctly me. I loved how Cheryl Martin didn't just preach and teach, she lived. She shared her own experiences and struggles on her road to becoming who she was meant to be. This book is NOT a one stop fixes all, this is merely a tool that shows us where we need to work harder on being who we are called to be.
daleenc5 Stars Out Of 5Distinctly You = Distinctly AwesomeMay 8, 2016daleencQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Cheryl Martin starts off with a story from her own life that describes what she's saying. Somehow, that just makes it 'click' so much better, being able to say, 'hey, she gets it. She really does!' And throughout the rest of the book, she continues with little stories, little touches of herself in there, just to let you know that she really does understand what she's writing about.
Also peppered through the book is Bible stories. Stories that make sure you know God understands too. He knows what's going on, and he still cares.
She gives questions at the end of each chapter to help you find your weak spots and your strong spots. She has application in it. She shows you what she means, how to get there, how to live.
Would I recommend this book?
If you see it anywhere, I would definitely, definitely pick it up. Cheryl Martin is an awesome writer and this book is an awesome book. I hope you all enjoy it just as much as I do.
