From the back cover: It feels like paradise, but deadly secrets lie beneath the waves off the coast of Kauai.
Sometimes Kaia Oana thinks her dolphins are more humane than humans. As a mammal intelligence researcher, Kaia has learned a thing or two about the goodness and intelligence of dolphinsand as a natural scientist in close proximity to weapons developers, shes learned a thing or two about humans as well.
When a tourist catamaran explodes off the coast of the Hawaiian island of Kauai, Kaia and her trained dolphin, Nani, rush to aid the search and rescue effort. After hours of searching, an exhausted Kaia is pulled from the water by Lieutenant Commander Jesse Matthews of the U.S. Navy.
Lieutenant Matthews is accustomed to following protocoland a civilian-dolphin rescue is not typical operating procedure. But when his colleagues ignore the possibility that missile research had something to do with the sunken catamaran, Jesse recruits Kaia and her dolphin to help him conduct his own investigation. The olive-skinned mermaid had impressed himin more ways than one.
As their rogue investigation takes them into the waters surrounding the sunken boatand their personal chemistry takes them into other uncharted territoryKaia and Jesse discover that they have become targets themselves. Someone doesnt want them snooping around that wreckage . . . someone desperate enough to kill.
I have been a big fan of Hawaii ever since I watched the TV series, Hawaiian Eye Invite me back to Hawaii for some kind of adventure and I am there with you. Tell me that Colleen Coble has written a mystery thriller set on the island of Kauai and I am super excited. Ms. Coble always delivers top-notch exciting stories. Add in that this one also involves a dolphin and this book has entered orbit. Kaia and Jeff are well drawn characters that I liked a lot. There are many story-lines that Ms. Coble weaves together in this book and each one, by itself, is interesting taken all together and they will keep you hoping. And on top of everything there is a romance. This is a fast-paced read that will keep you guessing as to what is really going on. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. H Transue5 Stars Out Of 5May 6, 2010H TransueI have not finished the first book in the Aloha Reef series but am very close. It is so hard to put down. I've tried to read one chapter per night but have ended up reading two, three or more and I don't want to stop there. Many emotions are evoked in Coble's books and this one is not a disappointment. Suspense, romance, family relationships and last but never least is faith in the One who is Worthy, all there.
