Publisher's Description

Nikki Wright is desperate to help her brother, Bobby, who hasn’t been the same since escaping from a detainment camp run by terrorists in Colombia. Rumor has it that he betrayed his navy brothers and conspired with those who held him hostage, and both the press and the military are hounding him for answers. All Nikki wants is to shield her brother so he has time to recover and heal.

But soon they realize the paparazzi are the least of their worries. When a group of men try to abduct Nikki and her brother, Bobby insists that Kade Wheaton, another former SEAL, can keep them out of harm’s way. But can Nikki trust Kade? After all, the man who broke her heart eight years ago is anything but safe.…

Hiding out in a farmhouse on the Chesapeake Bay, Nikki finds her loyalties—and the remnants of her long-held faith—tested as she and Kade put aside their differences to keep Bobby’s increasingly erratic behavior under wraps. But when Bobby disappears, Nikki will have to trust Kade completely if she wants to uncover the truth about a rumored conspiracy. Nikki’s life—and the fate of the nation—depends on it.

Nikki Wright is no stranger to disillusionment; experiencing the death of her parents, the loss of her first love, the wounds of a divorce, and the recent disappearance of her Navy SEAL brother; she has lost faith in everything good, including God.

Following a random phone call from South American missionaries, Nikki travels to the country of Columbia and manages to retrieve her terribly abused brother, Bobby, whose mental state of mind is fragile at best. Vicious rumors are circling among U. S. military leaders about Bobby's possible duplicity; speculating that he aided and abetted Columbian terrorists, members of the well known ARM group. As Nikki desperately tries to shield her brother until he can regain full health, both of their lives are threatened. It seems the only person that Bobby trusts to keep them safe is Nikki's nemesis, Kade Wheaton.

Kade regrets his decision to break off his relationship with Nikki Wright eight years ago, but a classified assignment demanded it, and she misunderstood. Now forced to work together in order to stay just one step ahead of a nation wide man hunt, will their common goals become permanent? And who exactly is Bobby Wright?

Christy Barritt has written a signature story laced with adrenaline and spiked with a healthy dose of faith and romance!

Nikki Wright has successfully rescued her brother Bobby from the clutches of Colombian terrorists, but soon finds that's not the end of his trials. Or hers. Not as long as people believe her brother is hiding information, that his amnesia might not be real. And when a kidnapping attempt goes wrong, Bobby contacts the one person he trusts, the one person Nikki doesn't want to see: Kade Wheaton, the man who broke her heart.

Kade is happy to be helping his friend, and happy to be see Nikki again. But not so happy when Bobby starts acting strangely, to the point where even Kade wonders if there might be truth in the rumour that Bobby sold his country out to the Colombians. No matter what Nikki says to the contrary. But Bobby isn't the only problem ...

Disillusioned is Christian romantic suspense at its best, with plenty of suspense, a solid romance, and a very definite Christian theme. No, God doesn't forget us even when we forget about him.

Nikki is my favourite kind of fictional characterintelligent and savvy, but with a vulnerability behind her. And Kade was a great match, protective when he needed to be, but not controlling, and not protective to the point of belittling Nikki's talents.

The writing was excellent, especially the fast pace and the suspense. It was one of those novels you don't want to put down because you want to find out what happens next, but at the same time you suspect that what's coming might be a bit scary or unpleasant, so you want to put the book down.

    Recommended for Christian suspense fans.

I became a fan of Christys books when I read some of her Love Inspired Suspense stories. Christy knows how to write in a way that grabs a reader so fast that one cannot help but get lost in the book for hours! Here, in Disillusioned, Christy did a magnificent job of sometimes throwing off this reader with twists and turns in the plot or adding characters. The main female is Nikki Wright who has been helping her brother get out of trouble or dangerous spots that have recently been putting her in life threatening situations too.

Booby seems to have some mental issues going on as he tries to figure out if what he heard in captivity is real or not. The medication seems to help Bobby until it is analyzed as requested by Nikkis former boyfriend and SEAL Kade. Nikki, Bobby and Kade are always on the run or dodging a pursuit and never sure who they can or cannot trust. When the threat for terrorism is revealed, none of the main characters is sure who the leader is as he/she only is known by the name Ace.

When I came to the ending and read who actually was known as Ace, I was surprised, but that wasnt the end of the story. No, it was the beginning of the heightened climax as Nikki, Kade and Kades friend are in mortal danger. Plus, Bobby has been missing and off his meds and with his training in the military he is one hard man to find! The novel is somewhat reflective of what is happening in modern day society with home grown terrorists and those who are on watch for threats to this nation.

I really enjoyed the action, adventure and yes the reigniting of a romance that a couple of characters thought was long over. For an enjoyable and suspense filled ride, here is a book that fits that bill, so please dont pass on it! In fact, you might consider either sharing your copy or giving one as a gift to other readers you know!

I love a book that grabs you from the first word. Filled with suspense, danger, as well as numerous twists and surprises that will keep you guessing. This book caused me to rethink some of my views of military service and some of my own judgmental views.

Have you ever had a really, really bad couple of days? Or a horrible week? When I think everything in my life is going off track, all I need to do to gain perspective is pick up a romantic suspense. And few are better at building tension in a story than Christy Barritt.

Her latest from Waterfall Press brings readers back to the Chesapeake Bay (and some of the characters from Dubiosity) with a page-turning, heart-pounding ride that kept me up later than I should have allowed it to. In Disillusioned, Nikki Wright is fighting for not only her life but her brothers. And the only man her brother trusts is the man who broke Nikkis heart eight years ago.

Kade Wheatons biggest regret in life is letting Nikki go. He never stopped loving her despite her moving on without himand rather quickly. Now hes thrown in a situation where he must protect her, while forced to protect his own heart.

While the race against the clock to find the truth is the driving force behind this story, the heart is in Nikkis spiritual and emotional journeys. Shes let go of a lot of dreams as well as her faith and now that shes on the run, she must come to terms with who she is in the eyes of God and in her own estimation.

    Another absolute winner from Barritt!
