Dr. Tom Stanton5 Stars Out Of 5Great ReadApril 25, 2017Dr. Tom StantonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5In typical Joyce Meyer fashion, easily readable, practical and Bible based...a challenge to think differently about our relationship to our loving Heavenly Father!
Dee5 Stars Out Of 5God is Love!December 28, 2015DeeQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0God Is Not Mad At You (Me) is very interesting, The only comment that I have is Thank You Joyce for being truthful in writing this book and adding notes on what other authors have experienced in this thing we call "life" I don't want to get emotional but I felt a strong relief after reading God Is Not Mad At You because all in all I was mad at myself and God was watching over me through all that "anger" it felt so good to release it, forgive, and rely totally on the holy spirit to have peace, love, and joy and know that God loves me unconditionally. I am cautious of how I treat people because I want to be a better person and represent God in all things.

Joyce reminds us that God loves us because he wants to, not because we deserve it. And He never stops loving us. He refuses to leave us alone. "He meets us where we are and helps us get to where we need to be." (viii)
"God is determined to have intimate relationship with each of us, and the only way he can do that is if He extends grace, mercy and forgiveness to us continually." (x)
Joyce writes about at all the issues that keep us from accepting God's unconditional love toward us. She looks at perfectionism and its ramifications (verses doing our best because we love Jesus), father issues, rejection, wrong perceptions that muddy our vision, guilt and shame (and phantom leg pain), religion and a religious attitude, trying to be someone we're not, not accepting God's forgiveness, failing to receive God's word, being overwhelmed by sin, having difficulty trusting God, and more.
"The single most important goal of this book," Joyce writes, "is to unburden you of the baggage you have carried into your relationship with the Lord - hurt, bad teachings, flawed views of a father, a works-based faith, wrong fear of God and other things that are all heavy items of baggage that steel our joy." (116) Take the focus off ourselves, she advises. Place it on God and His mercy.
This is a very practical book. Joyce tells lots of stories to illustrate her teaching points. If you have difficulty accepting God's love for you and being comfortable in His presence, read this book. "The understanding of grace, forgiveness, mercy, the unconditional love of God and the doctrine of righteousness through Christ is the foundation for everything else in our relationship with and service for God." (224) Joyce helps us build a good foundation.
Food for thought: "Sad Christians are people who simply don't know what they have in Christ." (118)
More food for thought: "We are called to be excellent but God leaves flaws in even His choicest saints to that they will always need Him." (23)

So many people steer clear of a relationship with God simply because of past experiences in dealing with someone who has hurt you with their anger or their response to something you have done in the past. Most often times, the older we get the more likely we are to avoid those situations in dealing with people who are angry with us, thinking that is a better way to deal with life, rather than moving forward in that relationship. However avoidance does nothing to improve your relationships with people. If we don't work through our conflicts, we will find very little people in our lives we can relate to, and God is the biggest one most people run from.
I believe most people like to think of God as someone that truly would rather not deal with because of the consequences of our actions might lead us to believe that some form of discipline is required for not doing the right thing. Yet God is all powerful, He is also all loving and has demonstrated the need for restoration with the human race. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God was already at work building a plan to restore the relationship He had with the humans He created through the birth and death of His son, Jesus Christ. God developed the plan that when you do something wrong, you need to find a way to seek forgiveness and make it right. When we sin, we need to repent, or turn away from that, seek forgiveness from God, and try and go about not doing that again. God doesn't ask for us to earn our way into His heart through some deed or hard work. He simply seeks our heart and words of repentance to restore the right order in our lives.
He is the perfect example of what unconditional love truly means. He gave His ONLY Son, that we might once and for all have a sacrifice of love and blood that would resolve that relationship between us and our Creator through belief in what Jesus Christ accomplished. The day that Jesus Christ died on the cross was for all the sins of the world and its inhabitants, past, present and future, that simply through believing in what He did, that we could restore that relationship with God once again and be assured that when our lives are done here on Earth, we will live forever in eternity with God.
Joyce Meyer once more takes readers through the different situations in our lives that show us that God is Not Mad At You so you don't have to avoid Him in your life. He isn't trying to control you, He's simply trying to love you, the way any father would their own child. But perhaps you don't have a great example of a loving father in your life to see that kind of relationship. Joyce addresses those as well using her own example of her father's abusive relationship to show readers how you can use these skills in every relationship you have and most importantly, how to restore the relationship with God in your life. Some may think that God will never accept them as they are; that they are not good enough for God, that God couldn't possibly forgive them or that even God is punishing them. All these issues and more are dealt with in Joyce Meyer style and one you can easily relate to in her book, God Is Not Mad At You.
I received God Is Not Mad At You by Joyce Meyer compliments of Faith Words, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review. If you find yourself struggling with issues from your past that are hindering your relationships with God and others, I would encourage you to pick up a copy of this book today. It will completely restore the issues that are holding you back and keeping you from building right relationships with people in your life. You too, can experience real love, acceptance and guilt-free living! I rate this book a perfect 5 out of 5 stars and LOVE every book I've read of Joyce Meyers mostly because she relates to us right where we are at in our lives!
