Leanne5 Stars Out Of 5Dinosaurs for kids by Ken HamJuly 27, 2022LeanneQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have a 10 year old who loves dinosaurs and I want to make sure he has a proper Biblical view of dinosaurs so that he will not be confused when hearing secular views on dinosaurs. This book is terrific and I'm using it for our homeschool material. It's very well organized, pictures are excellent and full of facts for kids to absorb. It asks and answers questions for kids and contains Bible verses for support throughout the entire book. Very well written!!!!
JP3 Stars Out Of 5Ham FistedMarch 1, 2021JPQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3My son received this book as a gift. I was pretty excited to teach him about dinosaurs and get a healthy creationist perspective but I find this book spends equal time attacking evolution as it does explaining creation ideas. And when it explains creationist ideology, it seems to go too far and, itself, ends up as a bit of an extreme - making assumptions and guesses in the other direction without separating them from current evidence.
There is also WAY TOO MUCH TEXT. Every page is paragraph after paragraph of tediously written, overbearing text that doesn't allow the fun of creation, dinosaurs, and science nearly any room to breathe.
My son loved the drawings, wasn't really bothered by the biting dinos (but always asked about it). He often had a favorite thing or comment for each page and that one's was "Don't eat me right now T-Rex!". It was funny and it didn't bug him but I was worried it might.
The narrative of dinosaurs being part of the fall or being part of the Ark event seemed to me to lean on the side of hypothesis more than "creation science". I think if Christians are going to write scientific books and curriculum for children that we should have more factual representation as well as modest extrapolations based on these facts. We shouldn't be hurling ourselves to an opposite extreme of many evolutionary ideas just for the sake of it - it can become the Christian version of the same problem - running too far past the evidence.
I've seen precious few of these types of books so I do recommend it, but its not a very comprehensive resource. Had too much cheesy and very outdated 'kid-relevant' stuff.
Dozer5 Stars Out Of 5Nicely written and illustrated...September 14, 2020DozerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4may be more suited for older children. very realistic pictures depict dinosaurs biting other dinos around the neck. however, the book as a whole is so well written, and informative/educational. love the half pages that act like a flip book to show progression or change in a picture. I just chose not to show the kids every page just yet.
