MomBlogger5 Stars Out Of 5just for womenMarch 3, 2014MomBloggerQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5I am always looking for a daily devotional that is easy to read, relevant to my life and has short, sweet lessons that don't take much time as I seem to always have "something" that needs to be done - and often take little time for myself or my scripture reading.
The One Year Devotions for Women: Becoming a Woman at Peace is a nice daily devotional that many women will enjoy. It has a daily scripture reference and mediation as each day's reading contains a new and interesting topic that is catered to the busy lives of women.
Although some were not as "short" as I might like, I often find myself taking more and more time with this devotional alone in my room, so I can focus and read through each devotion more than one time. I like to really try to apply each day's devotion in ways that help bring peace to this often chaotic Mom's life.
This devotional is well-written and applies to the daily lives of women, and I definitely recommend it.

Each day has a topic that comes from a Scripture reference that the devotions and prayers were written about. The stories used in the devotions are mainly about some of Ann Spangler's personal stories about herself and people she knows, to help show the readers that she struggles/has struggled with some of the same situations. She also brings some other real life stories into the devotionals about authors and other people the readers may have heard about, or would like to learn from. It also educates readers occasionally throughout the devotional about Hebrew words.
I connected really well with the devotionals in this book and often looked forward to reading them each day. I read this book a little bit at a time over about a month's time, instead of a year's time. I often read ten devotionals per day and then there were other days that I read a whole month's devotionals, breaking them up into about ten devotionals at a time, three times per day. I ran into a "from fear to faith" theme when reading this that I kept running into in other ways during the same time frame.
Ever since I read "Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus" (which Ann Spangler co-authored) I have come to love her writings more and more. I also have a Bible that she was the General Editor of that I constantly use called "The Names of God Bible" from the God's Word Translation.
I am so glad that this book was put into my life and I did notice that my life became more peaceful as I was reading it. I recommend it to other women who want to find more peace in their lives with God.
I received this book free from Tyndale Publishing. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

It begins with a definition: "Shalom. One of the most important Hebrew words in the Bible, shalom coveys the idea of peace, tranquility, satisfaction, success, prosperity, healing, completeness, safety, well-being, and good relationships among people and nations. Rich and multifaceted, shalom sums up all the blessings God gives to those he loves." Spangler also shares with the readers that she was not sure she wanted to even attempt to write an entire year's devotions on the subject of peace, but ended up having much more to share on the subject than she originally thought.
Each day's devotion begins with a Bible verse. Then each includes a short devotion and ends with a prayer or prayer starter. Busy women, trying to run households, work, volunteer, and much more, will appreciate these short but powerful devotions. Peace is a topic that certainly applies to all and is impossible to obtain on our own. Spangler reminds us that God wishes to bring all of us immeasurable peace, if we will just take the time to spend a few moments with Him.
I recommend this book for all busy women who could use a little more peace in their lives.
