"Whether you have a healthy craving for more Jesus, or the barely discernible taste for a relationship with Him that seems beyond your reach, the glorious truth is that God put that hunger in your heart in the first place, and He is more willing to fan that flame than you or I could ever be."

SKTimmer5 Stars Out Of 520 week devotional that will have you laughing & crying!!February 9, 2018SKTimmerQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I have been a huge fan of Shellie Rushing Tomlinson ever since I read her book Heart Wide Open several years ago, and I discovered her Love for Jesus sprinkled in with her Southern hospitality & humor! So, when I was offered a copy of Devotions For The Hungry Heart to review I literally jumped for joy at the opportunity!
Once again Miss Shellie - AKA "Belle of All Things Southern" nails it! She combines her funny true stories with her passionate desire to be Christlike in her Hungry Heart every day walk with Jesus.
I love how the devotion for every day of the week is something different: Surrendered, Intentional, Praying, Celebrating, Needy, & Sharing, and of course because of Shellie's Southern Hospitality she has shared some of her wonderful, scrumptious, Southern recipes right from one of her other books Hungry Is A Mighty Fine Sauce.
I absolutely adored this book, and I look forward to seeing what Shellie will be cooking up next!

MagisterMichiganAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Appetizing Aproach to Following JesusFebruary 5, 2018MagisterMichiganAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The word that kept coming to mind as I read this devotional was "HOMESPUN." Every page rings with truth straight from Scripture and the author's tender heart. This was my first exposure to Shellie Rushing Tomlinson, and she is everything you'd expect a real Southern Belle to be - warm, sweet, enthusiastic, and just a little bit sassy. Each topic resonates with her honest struggles to know and imitate Jesus better. The book covers 20 weeks of devotions, Mondays through Saturdays (hence the subtitle, 'Chasing Jesus Six Days from Sunday'). Each week follows the same pattern, illustrating that a happy heart is surrendered, intentional, praying, celebrating, needy, and sharing, followed by an appropriate Bible verse. I loved the compact size of this book, but found the teal and gold print a little difficult for my older eyes to focus on. The middle of the book features a dozen delicious Southern recipes with beautiful photography and easy instructions.
This volume is a real gem, and would make a fine gift for any young Christian woman looking for practical ways to deepen her faith in Jesus. Tomlinson's honesty and self-deprecating humor make each short two-page devotion easy to read and apply. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

PTL6KDS5 Stars Out Of 5Great Encouragement Gift....January 25, 2018PTL6KDSQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Devotions for the Hungry Heart by Shellie Rushing Tomlinson--
I must say this is indeed a delightful book! The author uses her love of food to make a fun transition to spiritual food and the hunger of our souls. Her entries are well written and very intentional in their daily theme. Shellie shares life-lessons in a personal way and reminds us of just how fulfilling our God is when we make him first in our lives.
I love how this book is laid out. Each entry has a personal story with an application, and a Bible verse to reinforce what is shared. Also, Shellie has sprinkled inspirational quotes throughout for added encouragement. Finally, I love how she added a fun center section which includes favorite recipes from her own kitchen. This book would be an excellent gift book for a woman who wants a daily reminder of the faithfulness of God. If she loves food, then it is a bonus.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. The book was truly a review-worthy book.
