Product Description

You don't have to have it all to live the life you're called to live. In Detoured: The Messy, Grace-Filled Journey from Working Professional to Stay-at-Home Mom, Jen Babakhan shares her personal journey of leaving her career behind and becoming a stay-at-home mom, along with the emptiness that came along with the transition.

She unpacks the falsehoods she believed about "having it all" and helps you confront your own misplaced sense of identity, reminding you of who you are in Christ. Motherhood doesn't offer performance evaluations or a pat on the back for a job well done, but when you follow the path God calls you to, you gain so much more.

Publisher's Description

Does having it all even exist?

Former marketing executive turned third-grade teacher, Jen Babakhan never expected her transition to stay-at-home mom would bring feelings of grief and loss. She felt God was calling her to be home with her newborn son, and she wanted to be with him—yet she felt conflicted about giving up her career.

Detoured chronicles the often-bumpy path Jen took to contentment and peace in her new role at home.  She honestly shares the struggles and joys of being home, and the truth she uncovered about "having it all."  She invites you to walk beside her on this journey and find:

  • a new confidence and peace in your decision to place your career on hold
  • an invitation to discover your true identity that has nothing to do with your job title
  • a sense of community and the knowledge that you are not alone in your motherhood journey

Stay-at-home motherhood isn’t easy—but it can be the most beautiful detour you ever take.

"This is the book I wish I would have had when I left behind a news career in the city to become a stay-at-home mom on the farm. I’ve never regretted that decision, but I desperately needed the peace and contentment that Jen holds out to moms in her debut book, Detoured. With personal insights and helpful advice, this book beautifully celebrates the gift of motherhood."
Jennifer Dukes Lee, author of It’s All Under Control and The Happiness Dare

Author/Artist Review

What was your motivation behind this project?  I wrote Detoured to encourage other women who are navigating the often-times bumpy transition from working to staying home with children. When I gave up my teaching career to be home I found that no one was talking about the feelings of loss and loneliness of being home with children- especially after having a career. There are so many feelings that come with this transition, all valid, and I believe that God wants us to take our emotions, questions, and doubts about our ability to handle life at home straight to Him. My hope is that Detoured blesses women and draws them into a closer relationship with Christ as they serve their families and find their worth is not found in a job title or performance, but in Christ alone.
