Publisher's Description

In this sequel to Doon, Mackenna Reid realizes she made a horrible mistake in choosing to follow her dreams of Broadway instead of staying in the enchanted land of Doon. To make everything worse, she's received her Calling—proof she and Duncan are each other's one true love—and it's pure torment, especially when visions of the very alluring Scottish prince appear right before she goes on stage. So when Duncan tells her an ancient curse threatens to overtake Doon and the new queen and Kenna’s best friend, Veronica, needs her to return, Kenna doesn't have to think twice. With darkness closing in on all sides, Kenna and Vee must battle a world of nightmares in order to protect the kingdom. But it will take the ultimate test of courage for Kenna to salvage her happily ever after.

Author Bio

Carey Corp lives in the metropolitan Midwest with her loveable yet out-of-control family. Carey wrote her first book at the age of seven, and currently begins each morning consuming copious amounts of coffee while weaving stories that capture her exhaustive imagination. She harbors a voracious passion (in no consistent order) for mohawks, Italy, musical theater, chocolate, and Jane Austen. Carey’s debut novel for teens, The Halo Chronicles: The Guardian, earned her national recognition as 2010 Golden Heart finalist for best young adult fiction and was recently featured at the 2012 RT Booklovers Convention in Chicago in YA Alley.

Lorie Langdon is one half of the author team behind the bestselling Doon series. A few years ago, she left her thriving corporate career to satisfy the voices in her head. Now as a full-time author, she spends her days tucked into her cozy office, Havanese puppy by her side, working to translate her effusive imagination into the written word. This was an amazing book! It was extremely well written with twists and turns of endless fantasy adventure that will leave you begging for more. I never read the first book in this series so I was worried I would be lost through most of the book. But that was not the case. I got caught up very quickly and by the end of the book I felt as if I already had read the first one. The author also explains the character's facial expressions and how they felt very well. I felt for each character's loss, joy, love, anger, and sadness as if I was right there experiencing everything right along with them. I also loved the people from Doon's Scottish accent and their traditional medieval Scotland world. As if you were taken back in time.

There was also plenty of action and drama keeping you on the edge of your seat with loving romance that will leave you blushing.

    Two thumbs up!

I was given this book for my honest review from BookLook bloggers program. (booklookbloggers.com)

"I met Jamies somber gaze and saw my own horror reflected on his face. What wed feared most had happened the erosion of the borders had taken its first human life. My only hope was that together, my VFF and I could off another miracle. Oh God, I prayed. Please let Kenna get here soon!"

Book: Destined For Doon by Carey Corp and Lori Langdon, Blink (Zondervan Publishers), 2014

    Genre: Fantasy/Supernatural

    Target Audience: Girls 16+

Subjects: Magic, Witchcraft, Prayer, Dating Relationships, Friendship, Family Relationships, Love

Summary: Kenna is trying to live the carefree life of a Broadway actor back in New York but its not going as well as she would like. Success leaves an empty taste in ones mouth if all you can think about is the boy you left behind in a world that only appears every hundred years. And besides, shes not as successful as shed like to be anyway. So when the call comes from her best friend who gave up this world to live in Doon forever, Kenna knows she really has no choice, no matter how hard it will be. The biggest challenge is to not let her escort, Duncan, know that she left because she loved him too much to let him sacrifice everything familiar and loved just to follow her. Once she gets back to Doon though, she realizes her problems are a whole lot bigger than her secret love for Duncan. The witch may be destroyed but some curse is destroying the land and the people of the land. Once again, Kenna and Vee need to pull off a miracle to save the land of Doon.

Notes: Destined For Doon is a the second in a new spin-off series about the legend of Brigadoon or Bridge o Doon, the story that a village in Scotland, in an attempt to fight off the evil influence from the rest of the world, prayed and was blessed with the ability to disappear into the mist and only make contact with the world every hundred years. In this story, characters can come and go from Brigadoon during that time as well as any time if they are wearing one of two magical rings. This story is very focused on the romance aspects. Both girls have just graduated from high school, both come from broken or at least single-parent homes and are looking to control their own destinies. Doon is a world that encourages the exact opposite. They have a strong belief in magic and destiny and some form of ultimate-being. The spiritual elements are hinted at all throughout this book. The two girls wonder and doubt and consider the possibility of the power of prayer and how much God is or should be involved in their lives. One of the people in Doon explains their views that the civilizations Creator or Protector is outside the laws of nature and does amazing things that for lack of a better understanding, people call magic. Everyone in Doon attends church and to the girls, the princes seem to hold a strong faith. But the book is careful to not make anything too clear. They never outright say that God is the Protector of Doon or that putting ones trust in Him for salvation is necessary. The Protector is a benevolent, powerful being, but not necessarily involved in their day to day lives at all, more just there for emergencies.

In this second book, Vee seems to have accepted a bit more that God is a being that gives power and she prays to Him for help. They also believe strongly in the power of the evil though the witch, curses, old texts saying how to break curses, etc.

Overall, this is an entertaining story, but there isnt much of spiritual value in it. Everything is just left in vague, unclear terms, leaving the reader to just form their own opinions rather than presenting the Scripture.

James 4:13-17 Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

Destined for Doon by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon is the sequel to Doon by the same authors. Mackenna is visited by Duncan, her old boyfriend from Doon, in her dressing room onset of her newest production just one short year after her return to modern day. Mackenna has spent the past year acutely aware that she has made the mistake of her life by leaving Duncan on the bridge leading to Doon. Doon is a community in the Scottish past. The only way to Doon is to cross the Brig O Doon at just the right time. Duncan requests Mackenna's return at the request of her best friend Veronica who happens to also be the Queen. Both Mackenna and Veronica crossed the bridge at the same time but only Mackenna returned to modern Chicago in order to pursue her career hopefully to Broadway. She is certain that Duncan must hate her for leaving him but she is also aware that she loves Duncan every bit as much as she ever did. Mackenna agrees to return with Duncan for Veronica's sake to help her rescue Doon. Mackeena and Veronica must figure out a way to save the land of Doon from the limbus which is destroying all vegetation, replacing it with a dark petunia-like flower and turning the wildlife and humans into a form much like zombies. Will the rings that Mackeena and Veronica wear have enough power to save the Scottish land of Doon? Will the Doonians ever accept Veronica as their true queen and not just a figure head leader? Read this next installment of Doon for all these answers and more.

I really do like these Doon stories. I am not usually a fan of fantasy but I do enjoy the stepping back into the history of Scotland of a thousand years past in order to read a good love story. These love stories are good wholesome love stories than anyone including those of Junior high age and above could enjoy. I think that this story could stand alone but the reader would definitely benefit from reading the series in order to get the background of the story. I recommend this book as good reading for any who enjoy love stories and/or soft fantasy.

I received this book from Booklook for this review.

Destined for Doon by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon is another stunner of a novel in this series about Mckenna Reid and her everlasting connection to Doon. This book is a beautiful continuation of Mckenna's story and the idea that although we may choose to take a different step in life we are going to always be connected to our true love. Mckenna made the decision to follow a passion of hers and that is where we catch up with her in this novel unfortunately she will be drawn back to her beloved Doon to save it and herself from a fate unlike anyone thought could ever occur to Doon. The imagery, the characters, the struggles, and the locations are described to such an exact point that it makes me want to be apart of the story and help in the fight to keep Doon alive. This is the kind of novel that is made for summer reading it has the perfect blend of everything to keep you gripped to the story that is unfolding before your eyes. I was given a review copy from BookLookBloggers and all opinions are my own.
