An Inspiring Read For Every Christian Lady

I read this book with a group of girls this summer and enjoyed it very much!

The style is clear and accessible and it was very hard not to devour it in one day. There's also a study guide included with questions at the end of each chapter.

I really liked the overall message of the book which is "your worth isn't defined by your beauty, your romantic experience or your career ambitions". I feel like this is a much needed message in a world where girls are told to be pretty, sexually open and climb up the career ladder as high as possible. At first glance, the three pillars of biblical womanhood that Kristen and Bethany explain may look very limiting, but when I thought about them and answered the questions, I found lots of possibilities to live them out! Another thing that I liked was how they focussed on revealing the lies our culture feeds us and how to escape them. There were also many inspiring stories of other ladies.

I would really recommend reading this book with a group of friends as it can spark amazing discussions!

The only negative points that I have is that some of the questions were a little too simple (the multiple choice ones) and I would have preferred more free questions with a little more space to answer them. Also, the book is clearly addressed at Christian girls and may therefore not appeal to non-Christian girls, which is a little sad because they too could really profit from the book! But I guess this lies in the nature of every Christian book.

Girl Defined by Kristen Clark & Bethany Baird was an excellent book! This book tells us what Gods true design is for women. Women of all ages tend to have a distorted view of femininity. We tend to focus on the outside. We also tend to compare ourselves to other women. This is not what is important. These sisters show us how God intended women to view femininity. Kristen Clark & Bethany Baird do a great job of gearing us, women of all ages, in the right direction. Sometimes we know how we need to act, but dont do it. We need a nudge in the right direction. These sisters help with the nudge! This book would be great for women of all ages, teenagers through mature adults. They write in a very easy to read format and are very down-to-earth. This book could also be used as a book study. After each chapter is a couple-page study guide with questions to answer. I would definitely recommend this book to all women. I received this book from Baker Books for my honest opinion.

I recently finished reading Girl Defined by Kristen Clark and Bethany Baird. This was an amazing book! Its difficult to put into words how amazing and impactful this book has been in my life. It has been such a blessing for me to read all about what being a true woman of God really means. I only hope that this book will make as big of an impact on you as it has on me. Not only do Kristen and Bethany go over exactly what a godly woman is and is not, but they also address gender roles and the importance of marriage and motherhood in the eyes of God. This book was extremely challenging for me, and it made me reevaluate a great deal of the thoughts and opinions I had on the role of a woman. Overall, an incredible and thought-provoking book that every Christian woman of God should read! I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review.

I don't think there has been a more confusing time to be a woman. For all our women's rights advancement, society is struggling with the key concepts of what femininity means...or doesn't mean! The authors have done a marvellous job of presenting fresh perspective and friendly encouragement as they tackle worldly concepts vs biblical ones.

While marketed for teens and young women, I think Girl Defined reaches a broader audience. No matter what our age it's hard to keep from becoming entrenched in society's ideal of womanhood. The popularity of all types of media has the potential to make women of all ages victims of their 'false advertising.' Baird and Clark begin their book with that identifiable moment in every girl's life where she recognizes the desire "to be beautiful and valued by the people around her." And I don't think we become immune to that desire as we age.

"Instead of turning to God's word first and allowing him to inform our worldview on gender, many of us do the opposite." ( p. 67)

The authors present compelling points in an engaging manner and then turn it over to the reader with challenges to pray about issues in their own lives. Each chapter's study guide asks a few pointed questions to help the reader make an honest assessment. The key is to be true to yourself as you ponder and pray over each one. I love the way the authors encourage girls (and women) to take charge instead of allowing the world to define them.

I came across Girl Defined Ministries on Twitter recently, and I loved reading about their stand for biblical femininity. Then I saw that they had written a book and requested to review it right away!

In Girl Defined, Kristen Clark and Bethany Baird (who are sisters) discuss God's design for women, and how that often clashes with our cultures expectations. They tell their personal journey in discovering what God expects of us as women and His plan for living out our God-given femininity. They address topics like gender roles, working outside the home, and relationships with grace and biblical wisdom. I really appreciated how organized this book was as they discussed the three "pillars" of biblical femininity, and how those apply to life and the decisions we have to make as women.

The book is written in the tone of big sisters encouraging a little sister, and it was very easy to read - a book I looked forward to picking up. I would say that target audience is probably late teens to early twenties. However, I still got a lot of encouragement out of this book personally, even though I'm probably a bit older than the target audience. Some of the topics they address are big enough to have their own books, but I liked how the Kristin and Bethany stayed focused on the big picture. I was especially encouraged by the chapter on living in light of eternity, since that is something I've written about because it's so important. I appreciated the reminder and encouragement to live to glorify God, because what we do here counts for eternity.

This is a book I'll be hanging on to for Gwen and Clarice when they reach their teenage years - some books are timeless, and I think the focus on God's design for women will be just as relevant in another 12-15 years when they will be ready for this book. I'd definitely recommend it!

Note: I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for a review. This is my honest opinion.
