Not Quite An Angel by Shirley Kiger Connolly is Book Four of the Decisions series, of which there are five books. Not Quite An Angel tells the story of Daphne Jordan, who manages to thwart her fathers plans for her marriage and sets off on a trip of excitement and intrigue in San Francisco. Aware that her brother is a parson and that she has to behave in a certain way, she creates a persona who has a far more exciting life than the real Daphne could possibly imagine. Unfortunately, her scheme becomes complicated when she meets Sir Geoffrey Wentworth and he falls in love with her, believing her to be the daughter of a French marquis. As the two become close, Daphne believes Sir Geoffrey is merely trying to save her from her fathers plans, but all is not as it seems.
Shirley Kiger Connolly has created a masterpiece of intrigue with her historical fiction romance. The characters are believable and likeable, and Daphnes indecisions and regrets are heart-rending as she is so endearing to the reader. With Daphne trying always to do the right thing, but torn by an inquisitive nature, this is a story that will have the reader rooting for everyone to be happy. The writing is smooth and flows well and the dialogue is appropriate. This book - although a stand-alone novel - would have me searching out other works by this author, and the further books in this series. All in all, a very enjoyable read and highly recommended.
